Tiger Woods at the Masters after a Rain-Suppressed Second Round and the Fourth Open Under Green-Graining Event on Saturday
Tiger Woods made the cut at The Masters but after a nervy wait, he made it through to the third and fourth rounds.
The 47-year-old, who suggested this could be his last appearance at the tournament, finished the delayed second round with a one-over 73.
The weather made consistency difficult for the players on the course which, to an extent, worked in Woods’ favor as Justin Thomas shot a bogey on the 17th to move the projected cut to three over.
Woods had completed 11 holes of his second round on Friday and was two-over par, then the projected cut, when play was suspended for the day due to bad weather.
Brooks Koepka, who finished his second round before the bad weather ended the play early on Friday, remained in the lead on 12 under after the completion of the second round, though world No. 3 Jon Rahm reduced his advantage to two shots.
The third round has already begun. If the weather holds out, this will be a test of Woods’ skills as he plays so many holes on the same day.
His competitive appearances have been sporadic since he suffered severe leg injuries in a serious car crash in 2021 and after his opening round on Thursday he said he was in “constant” pain on the hilly Augusta course.
Play had begun an hour earlier to allow several golfers to finish their second rounds after inclement weather had similarly suspended Friday’s action, where blustering winds saw three tall pine trees fall near spectators. No one was injured according to tournament organizers.
Koepka, Rahm, and amateur Sam Bennett made it through just six holes before play was suspended, with the American leader shooting one-under to stretch his lead at the summit to four strokes from Rahm. The Spaniard had a double bogey and a bogey on the first two holes, but rebounded with a gain at the second.
However, a strong response saw the 2022 US Amateur champion steady the ship with four straight pars, leaving him seven shots adrift of Koepka in third.
If the Masters is unable to finish on Monday, it will be the fifth time in the past 65 years that the major has finished on Monday.
The winners on the day were Patrick Cantlay, Patrick Fitzpatrick, and Boo Weekley. As scores tumbled around them, the duo shot a round-best three-under par to move into the quartet tied for fourth, world No. 4 Cantlay making it through 13 holes while reigning US Open champion Fitzpatrick managed 11.
Tiger Woods will not resume his third round at Augusta National Sunday after the five-time Masters champion withdrew from the tournament because of a foot injury.

The sound of the klaxon may have soothed the golfer’s ears after he had started the third round with an awful start.
The 15-time major winner has only played competitively once this season and in the build up to the tournament told reporters that he doesn’t play or practice much anymore.
After Woods admitted that he was in pain during the first round of the Augusta event and said it could be his last appearance, questions will be asked as to whether Woods will ever play at the event again.
His form didn’t improve much after that. The man with the worst score of the day was on the 14th and 15th.
He only had a few hours to enjoy making the cut at Augusta for a record-tying 23rd consecutive time before beginning his third round.
