The Volkswagen ID.7 was reviewed

The Interior, Technology, and Performance of a Large, Accompanied, High-Range M-Theory Volkswagen Optical Cargo

The ID.7 is similar to other big aero-focused sedans and it’s because of aerodynamics that you can tell it has been designed. The final design is almost exactly the same as the ID, but VW went to great lengths to keep it under wraps. One wonders why Aero1 concept was shown so late last year.

As a sedan, the ID.7 has a lot going for it, including a roomy interior, impressive aerodynamics, and a healthy amount of range. An 86kWh battery is expected to propel the ID.7 to approximately 700 kilometers (435 miles) of range based on the WLTP standard, while the smaller 77kWh battery can get a respectable 615km (382 miles). (The EPA-based range will likely be less.)

And while it may be a sedan, it’s still larger than a Passat or Arteon. The ID.7 is 195.3% long and 2,866mm wide, riding on an 118.6in (2,866mm) wheelbase. A 532-liter luggage compartment should be ample room for passengers and cargo alike. The ID.7 is longer and taller than the Tesla Model 3 and has a width of 1 092mm and a height of 1,538mm.

Some of the biggest updates can be found inside the ID.7, where VW has reimagined its cockpit design to include an augmented reality heads-up display. The digital gauge cluster is embedded in the dashboard behind the steering wheel. VW has routed most of its controls through a central touchscreen, despite customers saying they wanted more tactile controls.

The 15-inch landscape oriented screen has a menu system that keeps heating and cooling controls in use, as well as displays seat temperature on display at all times. A heated steering wheel can be turned on using a voice activated function, while Haptic sliders under the screen control the temperature.

The Volkswagen ID.7 as a Benchmark for Large, Long-Distance Electric Land Yachts: Where the Pro S Comes From

If there’s anything the Volkswagen ID.7 makes you realize, it’s how impressive the Tesla Model S was when it arrived more than a decade ago. After all, we all know that tech moves fast, and yet somehow, despite multiple recalls, the Model S remains a benchmark for big, sedan-bodied, long-distance electric land yachts.

The ID. Buzz is just a tad shorter than the ID.7, and it’s built on the same MEB platform as the other ID models.

A four-wheel drive model is likely due to the fact that the power comes from a new motor that drives the rear wheels. Using the aerodynamic shape of the ID.7, VW has also supposedly managed a drag coefficient of just 0.23, amounting to 382 miles of range and making this potentially one of the most efficient EVs on sale.

If you reach the peak charging potential, you can expect a 10 to 80 percent charge in 30 minutes. The Pro S can do speeds of up to 200 kW, but it will take between 12 and 15 hours to charge from a 7-kWh home wall box.
