Analysts are watching for any explanations regarding the dismissal of the six deputy defense ministers. The reshuffle comes weeks after the government fired its defense minister.
The United Nations General Assembly will be held in New York. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is to speak at the opening day. The Ukrainian leader will be meeting with Biden and other people this week. Russia’s foreign minister is due to speak at the UNGA on Saturday.
Kim’s visit to Russia resulted in a meeting with Russian President VladimirPutin, in which he pledged to support Moscow’s fight against imperialism. Putin offered to help North Korea put a satellite into orbit. The United States and South Korea warned the leaders that they may be trying to strike a weapons deal.
The European Parliament adopted a resolution calling the Belarusian government an “accomplice” in Russia’s war in Ukraine. The country, bordering both Russia and Ukraine, has allowed Russian military and mercenary forces to be stationed on its territory, which Russia used as a staging ground for its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The military of Ukraine said that it took back the eastern villages. Recapturing the villages of Andriivka earlier in the week and Klishchiivka on Sunday — both destroyed by fighting — could allow Ukrainian forces to move farther into enemy lines around Bakhmut, an eastern city that fell to Russian forces in May after months of fighting.

Russia believes the world will grow weary and allow it to brutalizeUkraine without consequence, Mr. Biden said as President Zelensky looked on from the audience. “But I ask you this: If we abandon the core principles” of the United Nations Charter “to appease an aggressor, can any member state in this body feel confident that they are protected? Does the independence of a nation depend on whether or not we allow Ukraine to be carved up? I think the answer is no.
President Biden warned against appeasing Moscow in a way that would encourage the further use of force on Tuesday, and urged the world to stick with Ukraine.
The president used his annual addresses to the UN General Assembly to try to counter war fatigue in both his own country and abroad despite the fact that House Republicans are blocking more military assistance to the Ukranian government.
He dismissed efforts to broker a peace deal without Ukraine’s involvement, what he called “shady dealings behind the scenes.” He said that the recent death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the mercenary leader who had clashed with Mr. Putin, was a sign that Russia was unreliable. “Evil cannot be trusted,” Mr. Zelensky said. ask Prigozhin if he bets on Putin.

Mr. Biden has continued to provide aid using previously approved funds, and Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III announced on Tuesday that American M1 Abrams tanks would be arriving in Ukraine soon. “That will add another formidable armor capability to join the weapons that are already on the battlefield,” he said in Germany after a meeting of about 50 countries supporting Ukraine. He added: “I salute Ukraine’s brave forces, and we’ve got their backs. The fight between Ukrainians and Russians is one of the great causes of our time.
The United States sought to influence Russia during the war in Afghanistan as well as other countries, but Russia and China have fought each other since they gained their independence from the Soviet Union. Mr. Biden’s meeting with their leaders is in keeping with his strategy of bolstering relations with nations in China’s neighborhood to counter assertive actions by Beijing.
While he took an unrelenting stance against Russia’s brutal war and warned against appeasing Moscow, he drew a more measured line on China, repeating his commitment to “push back on aggression and intimidation” by Beijing while seeking ways to work together and denying that he was trying to contain the Asian giant. “We seek to responsibly manage the competition between our countries so it does not tip into conflict,” he said.
There are a lot of major issues facing the world today, like human rights, terrorism, L.G.B.T. rights and arms control, without much new ground on any of them. He urged more action to fight climate change, saying that it was a problem due to heat waves, wildfire, and flooding in Libya.
“Together, these snapshots tell an urgent story of what awaits us if we fail to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and begin to climate-proof the world,” he said. He said that the United States has treated this crisis as an ultimatum from the moment they took office.
Zelensky: Defending the Right Way to Resolve the Israel-Palestinian Conflict (Benard Biden meets Netanyahu in Washington)
A reception for other world leaders was to be hosted on Tuesday by the Bidens at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. On Wednesday, he was scheduled to sit down separately with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil.

He pointed to Russia’s invasions and military interventions in Georgia, Syria, and the Baltic republics as well as their pressure on the other countries.
“War crimes must be punished, deported people must come home and the occupier must return to their own land,” Mr. Zelensky said before finishing with the historical national saying that has become a defiant mantra since the war began: “Slava Ukraini,” or “Glory to Ukraine.”
