The magura V5: An embarrassing blow for the Russian Black Sea fleet after Ukraine attacks on Russian ships in the 2014 Ukrainian drone strike on Alupka

Caesar Kunikov, a hero to the Soviet Union for his actions during the war, died the day after the Ukrainian drone strike.

The Magura V5 is a sleek black speedboat and was unveiled last year. It has a top speed of over 70 knots and a weight of more than 700 pounds.

Moscow’s naval forces were pushed back from the coast after Ukrainian attacks on Russian aircraft and ships in the Black Sea.

The Caesar Kunikov amphibious ship sank near the city of Alupka, which was annexed by Moscow in the summer of 2014, Ukraine’s General Staff said. It said the ship can carry 87 crew members.

Sinking the vessel would be another embarrassing blow for the Russian Black Sea fleet and a significant success for Ukraine 10 days before the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022.

Despite having low supplies of equipment and manpower, the Ukrainians have kept up their strikes behind the largely static front line.
