Recall: Using Recall on the Surface with Windows Copilot Plus PCs for Analyzing and Reducing Social Media Conversations

The new Surface Laptop is available with the AI-Ready Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips. There is a refreshed design with thinner bezels. The device is more than 80 percent faster than its previous generation according to Microsoft.

At Microsoft build, the company is giving more information about how Windows Copilot works. The runtime includes a library of APIs that developers can tap into for their own apps, with AI frameworks and toolchains that are designed for developers to ship their own on-device models on Windows.

One of the major AI features available within Copilot Plus PCs is Recall. The new tool runs locally on your device and logs everything you do on your computer, allowing you to search for and retrieve the content you’ve interacted with. That makes it possible to uncover a conversation you’ve had in apps like Discord, or even a specific PowerPoint slide you were working on.

Microsoft Surface Pro: Introducing Recall Feature for Windows Copilot Library, Studio Effects, Portrait Blur, Eye Contact, and Live Captions

Microsoft’s new Surface Pro — sans model number — swaps out the last-gen’s Intel Core Ultra processor for Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips from Qualcomm. It’s up to 90 percent faster than the previous Surface Pro, and it comes with the option for an OLED display panel for the first time.

The 13-inch Surface Pro starts at $999.99 and is available in four colors, including blue, beige, black, and platinum. It works with the Surface Pro Flex Keyboard that is attached to the device.

With the new recall feature in Windows, developers will be able to improve it by adding contextual information to their apps that feeds into the database. Users are able to pick up on what they left off in your app with this integration, says Davuluri.

Developers will be able to use the Windows Copilot Library to integrate things like Studio Effects, filters, portrait blur, and other features into their apps. You will get features such as background blur and eye contact during video calls with the addition of Windows Studio Effects. Even Live Captions and the new AI-powered translation feature can be used by developers with little to no code.

“We will make this capability available for developers with Vector Embeddings API to build their own vector store and RAG within their applications and with their app data,” says Davuluri.
