The Price of a Compact Folding Phone: The High-Precision Pixel Fold, the Low-Density Pixel 9 Pro, and the Pro XL

That said, the Pixel Fold still requires you to make some compromises. It costs $1,799, so it is very expensive. The cameras still aren’t as good as those of the Pixel 9 Pro or Pro XL. Long-term durability is still a question mark, and one does not simply get a folding phone repaired as easily as a slab-style phone. The Foldables are not quite ready for the mainstream.

Some of it doesn’t matter. There are some improvements to the experience of this iteration of the mini tablet, which you are paying this much for. The hardware feels much more polished and durable than the original, and the 8-inch display is spectacular when unfolded (among the largest you’ll find in a booklike folding device).

Feeling Normal with the Exterior Screen of a Cellular Phone: The Case Of A Small-Screen Galaxy-Old Phone

It all felt normal, so I used about 80% of my time on the phone’s exterior screen. This is a good thing because it’s not like you’re going to be unfolding the phone to use the giant interior screen for every single situation. My hands are large, so your experience might be different.

Sounds like a weird compliment, right? Is the whole thing related to the fact that it opens up so you can use the big inner screen? Kind of. There is a whole promise of the foldable phone and that is that it will be a small phone and a regular phone at the same time. Every foldable I’ve used delivered on the first part of that promise. Is it a big screen? Joe, we did it. The small-screen experience has not been great.

I was using the phone’s outer screen before bed, drowsily answering the minimum amount of Duolingo questions required to keep my streak intact, and it dawned on me: it just felt like a regular-ass phone.

I have not used the Z Fold or the first-generation Pixel Fold. They remind you when something is going on, every second. It feels like you can hold two phones at once, as the first Chromebook and the Z Fold 6 feel too heavy.
