The German-US Security Package for the Ukraine Warfighting Vehicles, Addressing the Ukrain’s Afraid of Russian Invasion
The Bradley fighting vehicle, which moves on tracks rather than wheels, can hold around 10 troops and is used to transport personnel into battle. The White House said that the US and Germany would train the Ukrainian forces on the vehicles they are receiving.
Biden spoke with the German chancellor on Thursday about the new commitment. New fighting vehicles and a missile battery for Russia will be sent by Germany.
The new security package comes as Russia intensifies its attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who visited the White House last month, has called for additional assistance from western nations to protect against Russian aggression. He stated that the support was investment in the global security and democracy.
Zelensky wanted those systems because they will allow him to target Russian missiles with a higher altitude than they have been able to before.
There is a good chance that any future attempts to push the Russians out of Ukraine will be conducted using infantry, or armored, fighting vehicles.
If not sent in large numbers the recent armored additions will likely not change much on the battlefield and add to the growing burden of Ukrainian mechanics as they struggle with a varied fleet of vehicles.
