A 25-year-old employee opened fire on his co-workers and opened fire at Old National Bank, a central bank in Louisville, Kentucky
A 25-year-old employee opened fire on his co-workers as they gathered for a meeting before the bank’s doors opened. The bank’s manager said she witnessed the shooting virtually as the meeting was being streamed (officials said the gunman separately streamed the attack online).
He said officers responded to the shooting within three minutes and discovered the suspect still firing. They exchanged gunfire with the suspect who died at the scene, but it was unknown if he died from an officer’s gunfire or from his own.
Police in Louisville, Kentucky, said a mass shooting at a bank killed five people and sent six others to the hospital on Monday.
The bank is on the fringe of Louisville’s developing downtown business district, according to Gerald Neal. He said that they wouldn’t expect anything to happen at the location.
A large police presence is visible in the video as well as shattered glass at the entrance of the Old National Bank.
The gunman, identified by police as employee Connor Sturgeon, was livestreaming online as he carried out the shooting at Old National Bank, officials said. He shot at the staff during a meeting in a conference room, according to a manager at the bank.
Hagan Curd said he was walking his dog on East Main Street on Monday morning when he began to see people running in his direction. Several loud gunshots can be heard in video he took at the scene.
Beshear, 42, a Louisville PD officer, and four other people are in critical condition in the Louisville Slugger Field shooting
As of the 2020 Census, the Louisville metro area has about 630,000 people. A furniture store, a bank and a dental office can be found on the 300 block of East Main Street near Louisville Slugger Field.
Beshear’s message was that he was going to the scene of the shooting. He asked for prayers for the families and the city of Louisville.
She had no idea that the shooter had grievances or ever made any threats. She recalled him as “extremely intelligent.”
The four other victims, who died Monday morning, were identified by police as Joshua Barrick, 40; Juliana Farmer, 45; Tommy Elliott, 63; and James Tutt, 64.
Three people are in critical condition, including a police officer who graduated from the academy just 10 days ago. Wilt was shot in the head during a confrontation with Sturgeon on Monday morning and was taken to the hospital where he underwent brain surgery, said Gwinn-Villaroel.
The Chief said that three of the injured are not critical and three have been released. Five of the nine injured people had gunshot wounds, a hospital spokesman said.
The 2021 Shooting of Old National Bank, Louisville, KY, November 17, 2021, was recorded live streaming by a student named Connor Sturgeon
In June of 2021, Sturgeon joined fulltime at Old National Bank after working at the bank for three summers.
The shooting was live-streamed on Instagram and has since been taken down. According to a law enforcement source, police are in possession of the video.
I will tell you that the suspect was live streaming. And unfortunately, that’s tragic. Gwinn-Villaroel wanted to know that the incident was captured.
The local news reports that Sturgeon ran track for his high school in a Louisville suburb and was a semifinalist for a National Merit Scholarship in 2015.
A former high school classmates said he didn’t see any red flags or signs of trouble in Sturgeon’s family.
In a 2018 college essay posted to the website CourseHero, a user identified as a University of Alabama student named Connor Sturgeon wrote that he had had trouble fitting in at school.
The author wrote that in college, he had “begun to mature socially and am beginning to see improvement in this area,” and that he hoped to “be more self-aware and start becoming a ‘better’ person.”
“Todd Sturgeon said he was watching his son, Connor, at a basketball camp recently when he had a realization: Maybe he’d rather have more time to spend with his own sons than other people’s,” the article said.
The Shooting That Happened: A Closer Look at a Shooting-Induced by a Redneck Black Hole
Buchheit-Sims, who was attending the meeting virtually, watched in horror as the shooting played out on her computer screen, saying the incident “happened very quickly.”
One of the hospitalized victims, 57-year-old Deana Eckert, died later Monday, police announced, though it is unclear if she was among the three people in critical condition earlier in the day.
The source said the note that the man left for his parents and a friend indicated that he was going to shoot up his workplace, though it’s not certain when it was found.
The 146th mass shooting of the year is the reason why the fight between Republicans and Democrats over gun laws has been so intense in the last two weeks.
Some Democratic lawmakers are concerned that the expressions of grief will not be accompanied by meaningful gun violence solutions since the Governor has ordered flags across the state to be flown at half-staff.
David Yates told CNN that he worried that everyone would raise their hands in anger and that they’d go back to doing the same things. “I hope that they all don’t have to die in vain like so many of the other victims of these mass shootings. Maybe positive things can come from it.
“Too many Americans are paying for the price of inaction with their lives. The president questioned when Republicans in Congress would act to protect communities.
The Old National Bank Shooting: Why a friend lost his friend in Louisville, Kentucky, last week, and why he touched so many people
Members of the Old National Bank executive team, including CEO Jim Ryan, were in Louisville Monday on the heels of the shooting, the company said on Facebook.
“As we await more details, we are deploying employee assistance support and keeping everyone affected by this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers,” Ryan said in a statement that morning.
The bank opens to the public at 10:30 a.m. but the shooting started 30 minutes before that. According to the bank manager, the person who opened fire on the staff at the meeting was an employee of the bank.
A federal law enforcement source said the gun used in the shooting was a rifle called an AR-15. The semi-automatic rifle is the most popular sporting rifle in the US, and 30% of gun owners reported having owned an AR-15 or similar-style rifle, according to the 2021 National Firearms Survey. The AR-15 and its offshoots have been the weapon of choice in many of the most horrific mass shootings in recent memory, including the Covenant school shooting in Nashville just two weeks ago.
Despite the shock of the shooting in Kentucky’s most populated city, Neal believes discussions about gun control in the state will still be an “uphill battle.”
I survived a workplace shooting last year. And now yesterday, I’ve lost a very close friend in another workplace shooting,” he said of Tommy Elliot, a senior vice president at the Old National Bank – where a gunman opened fire killing five.
“Tommy was a great man. He wanted to find good people and places for them to do great things. He embraced me when I was very young and interested in politics,” state senator Yates told CNN. He was lifting people up.
Elliott, 63, was also close friends with Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Greenberg, who said he spent Monday morning at the hospital with Elliott’s wife.
Beshear and the Barrick Family: In Memory of Jamie and Juliot, the Los Angeles Police Officer, and the Louisville Post-Newtonian Shooting
“It is painful, painful for all of the families I know,” he said of the latest shooting, adding: “It just hits home in a unique way when you know one of the victims so well.”
Beshear remembered Elliot an “incredible friend” and also called the others who were killed “amazing people” who will be missed and mourned by their communities.
The University of Louisville Hospital has five patients that are still being treated. One patient was upgraded from critical to fair condition, a hospital spokesman told CNN. The other four are in stable condition, and one is in critical condition.
Nine patients in total, including three LMPD officers, were treated at the University of Louisville Hospital following Monday’s shooting, the spokesperson said. Three of the patients have been discharged.
They wrote that they were searching for answers and that their hearts were heavy. “Please keep the entire Barrick family in your prayers, including his wife, Jessica, and their two sweet children, who are students in our school.”
Juliana Farmer, 45, was also an employee of the bank who had just started a new chapter in her life by moving to Louisville from Henderson, her aunt Vicki Brooks-Scott told CNN affiliate WFIE.
Fleischaker was helpful to him when he first became involved with the Louisville Downtown Partnership and had an open door policy. “Jim will be deeply missed.”
Commuters in Louisville, KY: The case for a criminal justice system and for an end of the gun violence epidemic, as announced by Greenberg at a bank shooting
Greenberg was the target of a shooting at his campaign headquarters last year. While he wasn’t injured in the shooting, CNN previously reported that a round appeared to strike his clothing in the incident.
Forty people have been killed by guns so far this year in Louisville, Greenberg said Tuesday, delivering an impassioned plea for state and federal government to take action on gun violence or to cede that power to the city.
We have to act now. We need to take immediate action to end the gun violence epidemic, so that fewer people die on our streets, in banks, and in our schools. We need help for that. We need help from our friends in Frankfurt and help from our friends in Washington, DC,” the mayor added.
The man who was killed in a police gunfight was on the verge of losing his job, a law enforcement source told CNN.
Greenberg told CNN on Tuesday that he had spoken with several local lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and that he would meet with them formally soon to talk about what they can do together.
Greenberg, speaking during a news conference earlier Tuesday on the bank shooting, said that nobody has the “luxury” of thinking they won’t have a connection to gun violence at some point in their life.
The man accused of shooting at Greenberg was indicted by a Kentucky grand jury last year.

A Conversation With John Greenberg: Making Louisville a Better City, and How You Can Come to Work with Me, My Mom, and Me
One of my teammates slammed on the door to stop me from opening it. The suspect fled when they threw desks on top of the door. We are very blessed to be here. He said at the time that all of us were on the team.
According to Greenberg’s website, he ran on a platform of making Louisville a greener city and prioritized public safety, justice, affordable housing and strong education.
Greenberg said before winning the election that it was important to improve public safety, make it a safer city for all of its residents, and everyone who visits here.
Greenberg is a graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of Michigan. He helped launch 21c Museum Hotels, a regional “multi-venue” contemporary art museum and hotel chain, and is a co-owner of Ohio Valley Wrestling.
