The Gaza Crisis During the September 11th Attack: Israeli Aid, Aid, Food, Water, Electricity and Fuel for the Gazans

Aid groups say that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated. Friday’s delivery, if it takes place, would be the first since Israel halted the flow of food, water, electricity and fuel to the territory earlier this month, in retaliation for a wave of attacks by Hamas on Israeli towns near Gaza.

The ability of the United Nations to distribute aid to civilians without the interference of Hamas has long vexed those seeking to aid Gazans. If Hamas “doesn’t let it get through or just confiscates it, then it’s going to end,” Biden said of the aid.

More information about efforts to locate and free hostages who are believed to be American citizens is what Biden hopes to get. Biden will meet with people who lost family members in the 9/11 attacks as well as first responders.

Kirby said that Biden wants to know about the Israeli military’s strategy when he talks to Netanyahu and his war cabinet. As Israel prepares for a ground offensive in Gaza, Biden wants to learn more about the objectives and plans for the coming days and weeks.

Kirby said that he will be asking some tough questions and asking them as a friend and a true friend of Israel.

Biden said in a statement that he was angry and sad about the explosion at the Al Ahli Arab hospital. “The United States stands unequivocally for the protection of civilian life during conflict and we mourn the patients, medical staff and other innocents killed or wounded in this tragedy.”

After the hospital explosion, Biden talked to Netanyahu. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said that Israel had “categorically and stridently denied” responsibility.

Abbas cancelled his meeting with Biden, and called for three days of mourning. Biden said he would postpone the visit after he talked to King Abdullah.

Israeli President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Abdel Fattah el Sisi Discuss Israel’s Security Assistance to Gaza After the Gaza Explosion

The explosion sparked protests across the region, including in the occupied West Bank, where three Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces overnight.

President Biden spoke by phone with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi after he had announced the deal during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

But the trip became more fraught after an explosion at a busy Gaza hospital killed hundreds of people, shortly before Biden left Washington. After Tel Aviv, Biden planned to go to Amman, Jordan to meet with three top leaders about aid for Gaza. But the part of the trip that was called off was the one that was called off.

Biden has traveled to war zones before, including a trip to Ukraine in February. The travel was not confirmed until the president was in Kyiv.

The risks of traveling to the region right now are one of the reasons why the White House is providing less information about the trip. The sirens in Tel Aviv went off as a warning about new rocket attacks and the Secretary was evacuated for about five minutes.

U.S., Israel and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip: A U.N./Gazawi deal for humanitarian relief after the Gaza conflict

There is a hope that 20 trucks of aid can enter Gaza Friday after the roads in the Hamas-run Gaza have been repaired. Dozens more trucks will continue to standby until another agreement has been reached.

That has left only Egypt’s Rafah border crossing, where trucks carrying some 3,000 tons of food, water and medicine are “awaiting” Egypt’s approval to enter, the United Nations says.

There are unclear if fuel would be included in the shipment. With Gaza’s main power plant unable to operate, aid groups say fuel is badly needed to power desalination and wastewater plants, along with hospital generators.

The U.S. has around 600 people trapped in Gaza and it was unclear if they would be allowed to leave if the border opened on Friday.

Israeli officials say that 1,400 people have been killed in the conflict. Palestinian health officials say that the death toll in Gaza has reached 3,478, along with more than 60 dead in the West Bank.

On Wednesday, U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres called for an “immediate cease-fire” in order to facilitate Hamas’s release of the hostages and for Israel to allow unrestricted access to aid.

The diplomatic efforts to address the situation will intensify this week with the arrival of Guterres in Cairo Thursday, as well as the arrival of Netanyahu in Israel Thursday and Sunak in Israel Friday.
