The Alabama court ruled that embryos are children

State of the Art and the New Alabama Supreme Court’s Decision on Insemination: Implications for Abortion Law in the United States

Unborn children are ‘children‘ … without exception based on developmental stage, physical location, or any other ancillary characteristics,” Mitchell wrote in the decision issued Friday.

Biden said in a statement that his administration “won’t stop until we restore the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law,” a key tenet of his reelection campaign.

“When you talk about an embryo, you are talking about, to me, that’s a life. “So I see where that is coming from, when they talk about that.”

Haley has in the past discussed her struggles with infertility, and told NBC on Wednesday that she conceived her children through artificial insemination, a process that does not involve creating embryos in a lab.

You also want to treat the embryos with respect, and make sure that the provider that holds them knows what’s expected, so you can see if there is a conflict of interest.

The decision could have wide-ranging ripple effects on the legality of and access to IVF. embryo creation can be done in a lab using a couple’s egg and sperm. More embryos are typically created than are implanted, and can be stored, donated, or destroyed, according to a professor of law who wrote extensively about abortion law.

In light of the court ruling, Alabama’s largest hospital network, the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System, has paused its IVF treatments “as it evaluates the Alabama Supreme Court’s decision.”

The court’s ruling and the move by the University of Alabama are “horrifying” signals of what is to come across the country.

Haley is out of step with many in her party who have championed abortion restrictions at the state and national levels.

In a memo obtained by NPR, the Executive Director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee warned Senate GOP candidates that the Alabama Supreme Court ruling could be “fodder for Democrats hoping to manipulate the abortion issue for electoral gain.” A memo was given to candidates on the issue.

“What we have seen on this issue is over the course of now, a year and almost a half — people who are suffering every day in our country as a result of this,” Harris said. “[Former President Trump] was clear in his intention to hand pick three Supreme Court justices who would overturn the protections of Roe v. Wade. And he did it. That is the reason why we are at this point today.

David Bergstein, spokesman for the Senate Democrats’ campaign committee, argued the GOP’s record on reproductive rights “speaks for itself” and added, “Republican Senate candidates have spent years opposing women’s right to make their most personal decisions about their health care and their families, and voters will hold them accountable for their record.”

“Women should have the ability and right to have a family on their own terms and that includes having access to fertility treatments like IVF,” Brown said. “Mitch McConnell is unable to change the position of the three men who opposed Issue 1 and are now trying to overturn the decision of the majority of Ohioans who supported it.”

The state’s voters approved a statewide ballot initiative that added protections for abortion in the state’s constitution, Brown shot back.

There was evidence some candidates were quick to heed the advice. Ohio businessman Bernie Moreno, a candidate in the GOP primary to run against Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio., sent a message on social media stating “I’m in favor of anything that promotes people having more babies and strong families.”

Trump has not specifically stated his position on abortion restrictions, but he claims that he appointed three justices who helped to overturn the court’s decision to allow them in Wade’s case.
