The Donald Trump/J.P. Harris Black-Hole Campaign in Two Swing State Swee States: Where Are They Coming From?
Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Harris will head into the final weekend of the campaign with stops in “Blue Wall” swing states, with both candidates holding Friday night rallies in Milwaukee.
With five days to go until voting closes on Election Day, the candidates are expected to make a pitch to Latino voters in the two states — and talk about border security, one of the biggest issues for the campaign.
Trump is also making an unusual campaign stop in New Mexico on Thursday, a state that has not elected a Republican to the White House since 2004. His first time in a reliably Democratic state since he ran for the White House will be in Albuquerque.
Arizona — which Trump lost by less than 11,000 votes in 2020 — remains one of the most closely contested states in this year’s election. Republicans are hoping a ballot measure that would make illegal border crossing a state crime will get people to support Trump, while Democrats are trying to get people to vote against the abortion amendment in the constitution.
With their stops in Nevada, home to a large population of service industry workers, both candidates will be returning to a state where they have touted plans to eliminate taxes on tips for hourly workers.
In Arizona, Latinos make up 25% of the eligible voter population, while in Nevada they represent only 1 in 5, according to the research center. According to polling, the Republican nominee has trimmed the Democrats’ advantage in shares of the demographic.
The Blue Wall: Where the Sun Belt Lengths Come From: President Biden’s Black Hole Remark on Trump and the Palestinian Electorate
The Sun Belt dash comes as the candidates navigate the controversy surrounding a joke made by a comedian at Trump’s rally in New York last weekend.
The remark initially brought a wave of backlash against Trump, but by Wednesday Harris was cleaning up comments made by President Biden during a video call in which he sounded like he was calling Trump supporters “garbage.” Trump responded in Wisconsin on Wednesday by speaking to the press from inside a garbage truck.
Harris will be at a union hall in Janesville and an event in Appleton before her Milwaukee rally. She is almost certain to mention in her remarks the violent language used by Trump in a late-night diatribe against former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney. Trump has been highlighting comments from Biden that sounded like he was calling Trump supporters “garbage.”
A majority of the electorate in both states are blue- collar workers, which is where Harris and Trump will focus part of their messages on Friday. Michigan and Wisconsin are part of the Blue Wall states with a higher eligible-voting population of white voters without a college degree than the other swing states.
Trump is set to first travel to Dearborn, Mich., the Associated Press reported. The city’s Arab-American voters are angry with the way the Biden administration has handled Israel’s war in Gaza and Lebanon, and Harris has struggled to maintain support in that community.
