The CNN This Morning Show, CNN, and the Men Who Are Among the Most Important People in the Nation: Don Lemon Explains his Disturbance

Lemon made the comments about women during a CNN discussion about the presidential campaign of former South Carolina Gov. Haley.

During an episode of CNN This Morning that aired Thursday, Lemon said that Haley, who last week announced her candidacy for president in the next election, isn’t in her prime. Haley is of a different race.

When Lemon made the comments they met with opposition from the co-anchors, but he persisted with his argument.

Chris Licht, the network’s chief executive, said during the editorial meeting that he had heard from people inside the organization about Lemon’s comments.

Lemon thanked Licht for the chance to speak to staffers and said that he wanted to be clear about his regret after making the comments.

“The people I am closest to in this organization are women,” Lemon added, citing his relationships with various hosts and executives. “The people I seek counsel from most in this organization are women.”

Lemon said he regretted the reference he made to a woman’sprime, which was inartful and irrelevant. He said that a woman’s age doesn’t affect her professionally or personally. “I have countless women in my life who prove that every day.”
