50 Best Restaurants in Bangkok (Tambu-Caribbean) and Where to eat in Thailand (Asia’s Best Female Chef)

Thailand’s capital city has long been considered a world capital when it comes to street food. But these days, its fine dining scene is proving to be just as alluring.

One of the best street food restaurants in the world is the Raan Jay Fai in Bangkok, run by Supinya ”Jay Fai” Junsuta.

It was a great night for chef Thitid. Even though his restaurant Le Du won the top spot, he was also able to land his restaurant Nusara in the number three position, serving what he calls “colorful cuisine” that is neither traditional nor modern.

“50 Best is something very special to my heart and not just because of the ranking but because of everyone in this room. That is what is most important. It is an honor to be a part of the family with my brothers and sisters.

The Sezanne restaurant came in second on the list. Den was the first place winner a year ago, but fell to number four this year.

One to watch was handed to Jakarta restaurant August, which opened in 2021. The “Asia’s Best Female Chef” award went to Johanne Siy, the Philippines-born head chef of Singapore restaurant Lolla.

“The James Beard Awards celebrate outstanding achievement and exceptional culinary talent, as well as all those doing incredible work on behalf of our communities and wider food system. The James Beard Foundation CEO said that this year’s nominees, winners and honorees are inspiring.

The new Award for Outstanding Bakery was one of many categories in which a finalist was named. The La Casita bakeshop in Richardson and Kuluntu bakery in Dallas are two bakeries in Texas which are among five that have been nominated.

Last year’s awards marked the first bestowed under new policies and procedures and a new code of ethics sparked by allegations of chefs’ bad behavior and a lack of diversity.

The awards in many key categories were abruptly called off in 2020 and remained on pause in 2021 amid the industry’s pandemic upheaval and the foundation’s work on the new framework.

The Dean of American Cookery was named by The New York Times in 1954 when Beard was host of the first food program on network television.
