Dozens of people from the Ukrainian diaspora gathered in D.C. over the weekend to run in traditional vyshyvankas. The shirts with embroidered patterns along the front, collar and sleeves are typically made of cotton or linen. The 33rd Independence Day of Poland is celebrated as a result of its split from the Soviet Union. The event comes as Russia’s full-scale invasion enters its third year.

Arlington Cemetery staff briefed Mast on the rules for no campaign events at the cemetery. Section 60 was the location of recent American war dead and only an official Arlington National Cemetery photographer and no campaign photographer could be used. The source said Langenderfer told them the Trump campaign agreed to these rules.
What Paul Robeson really does: Why he was important to me and what I don’t think he could do if he were black
Trump and many other GOP politicians continue to insist, despite a lack of evidence, that a wave of noncitizens will sway the election for Democrats. It’s illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections and there’s no credible evidence that it happens in significant numbers. But these false claims are being used as pretext to take actions that could raise obstacles for some voters.
Harris and Walz are about to give a joint interview on CNN. It is the first interview Harris has given since President Biden decided against running for president. Republicans say she tried to avoid tough questions by trying to dodge the press. This interview may be one of the first times she’s pressed on her own policies and how she would govern differently than Biden.
We all know there are different kinds of fame. There are people who are famous because they are important — think presidents. Then there are people who are famous for reasons we don’t really understand (looking at you certain reality show stars). And then there are people who we KNOW are important — often because we’ve been told they’re important — but we don’t really know why.
I am embarrassed to tell you that until recently Paul Robeson was in that category for me. I knew he was important because he has been in every Black History Month calendar I have ever had. I knew that there was an athlete, actor, activist, and a global star in the bio. I knew he had been blackballed during the McCarthy era for his outspokenness on human rights.
But I couldn’t picture him. I think he is doing something important in the world, but I don’t see him doing it in the way that I would want him to.
An Arlington National Cemetery Worker was ‘pushed aside’ by Trump aides: a response to NPR’s report on Trump’s visit to Arlington and an altercation
NPR reached out to Mast’s staff and asked if Langenderfer was briefed and relayed that information to the Trump campaign. They did not address the questions but instead released a statement.
The Army, in its statement, called the incident “unfortunate,” adding: “it is also unfortunate that the ANC employee and her professionalism has been unfairly attacked.”
“Participants in the August 26th ceremony and the subsequent Section 60 visit were made aware of federal laws, Army regulations and DoD policies, which clearly prohibit political activities on cemetery grounds,” the statement said. An ANC employee tried to ensure that they followed the rules but was pushed aside. The employee acted with professionalism and avoided disruptions, consistent with decorum expected at ANC. The police department did report the incident, but the employee decided not to press charges. The Army considers the matter closed.
The statement Thursday is in reply to NPR’s reporting on Trump’s visit to Arlington and an altercation his staff had with a cemetery employee.
“Joe Biden owes the men and women that served in Afghanistan a debt of gratitude and an apology.” Donald Trump loves this country and will never forget the sacrifice and bravery of our service members,” she added. “Join us in putting him back in the White House.”
“Joe Biden may have forgotten about our children’s deaths, but we have not forgotten,” said Cheryl Juels at the RNC. The aunt of the sergeant is Juels. Nicole Gee, one of the 13 U.S. service members killed at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan in 2021.
In a statement after NPR’s original story, family members present Monday said they invited Trump and gave approval for his photographer and videographer to document an emotional moment of remembrance.

The 11th Anniversary of Afghanistan War and the Timing of the 9/11 9/11 Remnant: Donald Trump, JD Vance, and the Family of Master Sgt
The 18 months without military casualties is a claim that Trump has been making for a long time. Between February of 2020, when Biden was vice president, and August of 2021, there were no combat-related deaths in Afghanistan.
It was a horrible day and we lost 13 great, great people. “We didn’t lose one person in 18 months, and then they took over the disaster, the leaving of Afghanistan.”
The video that was posted on Trump’s account shows the ex-president laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as some clips of him getting up close and personal with Gold Star family members at the gravesites of their loved ones.
Trump was at Arlington on Monday to commemorate the third anniversary of an attack in Afghanistan that killed 13 U.S. service members amid the disastrous withdrawal of troops. Trump and other Republicans have blamed President Biden and Vice President Harris for the chaos and loss of life.
The family of Master Sgt. According to their conversation with the cemetery, the Trump campaign staffers didn’t follow the procedures for their visit because Andrew was a Green Beret who died by suicide after serving multiple combat tours.
“We hope that those visiting this sacred site understand that there were real people who sacrificed for our freedom and that they are honored and respected and treated accordingly,” they said in a statement.
On the campaign trail in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, the Republican vice presidential nominee, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, said Harris could “go to hell” over the Afghanistan withdrawal and blamed reporters for the campaign’s controversy, which he called a “disagreement.”
A clip posted to his campaign’s Trump Social account from a Michigan campaign event shows Trump doubling down on his attacks against Harris and Biden.

Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox apologized on his Facebook page for sending a photo of him and the former president in Section 60 of the Pentagon with the family of a slain soldier. A person named Darin Taylor Hoover.
It isn’t the first time Trump has been accused of using the military to his advantage. He has allegedly called dead soldiers “suckers” and “losers,” insulted the late Sen. John McCain for being a prisoner of war and recently stoked controversy for saying civilian Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients are much better than those who received the Medal of Honor — the highest military award in the country, often given posthumously.
