Coconuts for Harris is a phrase that seems to come up in Silicon Valley

The Birth of the Nation – A Brief Review of Political Campaigning in the Era of the End of the Obama Era and Implications for a Democratic Candidate

Time: The idea of Ms. Harris as the presumptive Democratic nominee will take a few days to ripple through the public consciousness. It will take a few days for pollsters to go back and ask people their views and then crunch the numbers.

Republicans are warning of legal challenges to a smooth transition from Biden to Harris as the presidential nominee, even as top Democrats back her. Some questioned whether Democrats would swap out a presidential candidate if they decided to do so. Republicans are more concerned about whether Harris can use Biden’s funds. The campaign said it had $240 million.

The Secret Service on the Roof: The Case against the Assassination of a Black Hole and the Birth of an American Revolution

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle faced questions yesterday from House lawmakers who demanded answers about former President Donald Trump’s attempted assassination. She spent nearly five hours in the hot seat. In her testimony, she said the agency is cooperating with the multiple investigations that are underway and conducting its own review into what went wrong. The biggest question lawmakers have is how the man on the roof was allowed to look at Trump.

The Factor Druk Book Printers looked like a massacre after a Russian missile strike in May. Seven employees died and 20 others were wounded. Tens of thousands of charred books and printing machinery lay in smoldering ruins under the caved-in roof. Words and Bullets was a collection of interviews with writers on the front line of the war that was going to be released last month. The owner of the printing plant, Serhii Polituchyi, says he has not been deterred from plans to reopen because the industry is thriving. Bookstore chains have opened dozens of new stores in the past year, according to the Ukrainian Book Institute.

How Do You Feel After Giving Birth? A Couple of Tips for Preferring that Your Sex Life is Enjoyed During the Postpartum Period

New parents are receiving a message from me. What is your sex life like? It’s not so great, that’s probably the case. Between diaper duty, sleep deprivation, hormonal changes and general exhaustion, you might not have time or energy left for physical intimacy. After getting cleared for sex after giving birth, maybe you don’t feel ready. Here are some tips from relationship experts to help keep the romance alive in the postpartum period.

Today, on WIRED Politics Lab, how megadonors in Silicon Valley are supporting Vice President Kamala Harris now that President Joe Biden has decided against running again. Republicans and far-right lawmakers are accusing Biden of being involved in a coup.

I am sure many others were in the field trying to measure how the events of the previous week would affect Donald Trump and his campaign.

The 2024 presidential campaign has hit a reset with more voters moving into the undecided camp now that Kamala Harris is potentially the Democratic nominee, a new NPR/PBS News/Marist poll finds.

Democrats seem to be ok with this because they seem to think that Ms. Harris is the smartest person in the room, and that they still prefer a deliberative process.

Ms. Harris will drive abortion messaging more sharply. During the June debate, when asked about the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Mr. Biden’s answer was meandering. One of the few issues where voters say they trust Democrats more than Republicans is abortion, and Ms. Harris plans to make it a part of her message.

Nearly three out of every four independent women say they are undecided, despite the fact that Harris and Trump are statistically tied. Harris will need to reestablish herself in the next few weeks.

With more folks undecided, there’s an opportunity for Harris that Biden did not seem to have. It’s another key indication of just how much of a restart this move is for the campaign.

She was called “Leah Feiger.” Fundraising for Democrats had reportedly slowed since the disastrous presidential debate a few weeks ago. Then the assassination attempt on Donald Trump brought some right wing Silicon Valley donors into Trump’s camp, but with a new candidate set to take Biden’s place, will left-leaning Silicon Valley donors open their checkbooks again? Later in the show I’ll talk with David Gilbert about how the right wing is calling this an unlawful coup. But first, I’m here with WIRED senior writers Makena Kelly and Lauren Goode, who have been reporting on the democratic fundraising situation in Silicon Valley. Welcome back, Makena.

The Vice President confirmed immediately that she is running and said, “We have a lot of time left until election day, and we will win.”

The Defense of Clement: The Case for a Resolution of the Joint Meeting of the House of Delegates to the House Foreign Affairs Committee

Netanyahu is expected to get a mixed reception when he gives a speech at the joint meeting of Congress. Republicans support Prime Minister Netanyahu and Israel. Democrats are now critical of President Biden’s call for a cease-fire. 200 people were arrested after they staged a sit-in on Capitol Hill to protest the war in Gaza. Netanyahu believes that Hamas must be destroyed in Gaza and this will likely be the central theme of his speech.

The Interior Department was where Joel Clement worked for seven years on policies to aid Alaskan communities at risk from rising seas and thawing permafrost. His work moved forward during former President Barack Obama’s administration. When Trump took over, Clement was reassigned as part of a government-wide effort to stop working on climate change. Clement resigned and became a whistleblower on what he and other scientists saw as the Trump administration’s political interference and censorship of science. Scientists are concerned that interference will be more severe in a second term of Trump. Here’s why.

Understanding the Complexity of Popular Songwriting: An Analysis of Hamilton’s Discovery of the Origins of Popularity and Complexity in Classical Music

Hamilton began to explain our emotional connection to music and made a different discovery along the way. Her find: Today’s most popular tunes are much simpler than hits from decades ago. Hamilton analyzed more than 1,000 pop songs to show how the vocals have gotten less sophisticated over time. But that doesn’t mean today’s hits lack complexity.
