In this year’s NCAA college basketball tournament, there have been upsets, Cinderella runs, and brackets busted all around, but some higher seeds avoided any potential banana peels.
The first top seed to be knocked out of the women’s tournament was the Cardinal, who lost to Ole Miss on Sunday.
The forward was the leader in scoring with 20 points. Brink did tie the game at 49 with 1:16 to go but a 5-0 run from Ole Miss put the game out of sight and clinched a famous victory.

Fairleigh Dickinson University became only the second No. 16 seed ever to beat a No. 1 seed, by ousting Purdue. And yes, that makes them just the second No. 16 to ever win a single game in the Big Dance. They did it despite being seeded No. 68 overall; they had to win a “First Four” game to reach the field of 64.
Florida Atlantic went into the half with a 32-25 lead, but the Knights came roaring back, going on an 8-0 run to start the second half to take the lead. Less than five minutes were needed for the Owls to break the game open.
Johnell Davis paced the Owls with 29 points, while Demetre Roberts kept the Knights in the game with 20 points.
Although the run came to an end, the team’s spirit, determination and ability to win against the odds made it a second team to many fans.

ESPN says that out of 20,056,273 bracket entries on its site, none are perfect. Yahoo says it took 24 games to ruin all of its users’ brackets. CBS Sports says predictions on its site were quickly obliterated for both the men’s and the women’s tournament — which has also seen early upsets, such as Ole Miss shocking Stanford.
There are four games to be played on Thursday and Friday. Michigan State will play Kansas State in the first game on Thursday. It’s followed by the next one.

The percentage of brackets predicting the success of the Ivy League school is lower than the percentage that accepted applicants, according to the NCAA.
The last three years, a No. 15 seed has reached the Sweet 16. Saint Peter’s reached the Elite Eight last year, while Oral Roberts did the same.
If all the favorites advance to the second round, the sums add up to 9: No. 4 plays No. 5, and so on. When you see higher sums, things have gone off-script.
For the Sweet 16, the ideal sums for the favorites would be 5. But with two No. 1 seeds eliminated, the math is all over the place. The most unlikely matchup features a sum of 21, as No. 15 Princeton and No. 6 Creighton face off.
