After a field goal was made by the Eagles, they ended the third quarter with a score of 27-21. The fourth quarter began with the Kansas City Chiefs leading the field for another touchdown and a short pass to Kadarius Toney. For the first time in the game, with 12-minutes left, Kansas City was leading: 28-27.
Both of the Commanders’ running backs – Brian Robinson Jr. and Antonio Gibson – had first half touchdowns as a widely expected Eagles victory turned sour.
And, on the final play of the game needing a miracle touchdown to rescue a victory from the jaws of defeat, the Washington defense was able to recover a fumble from Smith after a failed lateral for a touchdown which put some gloss on an impressive victory for the now 5-5 Commanders.

Although Wentz was ruled out of a start against his former team due to a finger injury, Heinicke wasn’t sure if his performances in Wentz’s absence were enough to earn himself the starting job when he does return.

Earlier in the day, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 31-7, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, to advance to championship game for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
The 49ers were without their starting quarterback in the first quarter, after he hurt his elbow on a hit by Reddick. Josh Johnson, who is the fourth string quarterback for San Francisco, filled in for Purdy until the third quarter before being ruled out of the game with a concussion.

Hurts added: “I’ve put a lot of trust and faith in a female-driven team. I have a team of straight hustlers … They get things done. And that’s how I am on the field and off the field. We’re all trying to accomplish something.”
However, that cannot be said for his vocal performance of the Eagles fight song “Fly, Eagles Fly”, which indicates he needs to spend more time with a singing instructor.

Hurts was helped in his formative steps by his father, Averion, the head coach at Channelview High School during his time there.
Averion believed his mental capacity was his biggest attribute, rather than his running ability or large arm, because of his time with his son.
Hurts is a keen advocate for empowering the women around him, something he says goes back to seeing his mother, Pamela, raise a family while studying for a master’s degree.
I admire people who work for what they want. And I know women who do that daily, but they don’t get the same praise as men – they don’t get the praise that they deserve,” Hurts told Sports Illustrated.
A lot of the women in my life are hustlers. Athletes, coaches, women in the business world of sports. I see it all the time. They deserve their flowers as well. So if me saying something about it brings more attention to it, then I’m all for that.”

In his first year at the University of Alabama, Isobel Hurts still a freshman: playing the role of a black woman in the NFL
In his final year of college eligibility, Hurts transferred to Oklahoma where he reinstated himself as an option for NFL teams in the upcoming draft after a successful season.
Hurts was drawn to working with Lynn because she was the first Black woman to represent an NFL quarterback in the Super Bowl.
“I know the agent world in the NFL, and all sports, is very male-dominated,” he told Sports Illustrated. “But Nicole was really on top of her stuff. She was prepared for whatever would happen. She was aware of what she was talking about. She was hungry. She was determined.
He may have been first heard of from his power lifting exploits. Hurts attended powerlifting meets during his high school days when he initially began lifting.
Steadily though, his on-field performances at college began to earn him wider recognition, especially when he started for the Alabama Crimson Tide as a true freshman, the first to do so for 32 years.
Hurts is a starter for the second season in a row. The Houston native led the team to a 16-1 record and had 3,701 yards in the air with 22 touchdown passes and six interception and 760 yards and 13 scores on the ground.
The Houston native was forced to play second fiddle behind Tagovailoa in his junior season, coming in for the future Miami Dolphins quarterback on select plays due to his running ability and later in the season when Tagovailoa suffered an injury.
After declaring for the draft, Hurts’ name was taken by the Eagles with the 53rd overall pick in the second round. The pick was a surprise to many, with starter Carson Wentz just two years removed from an MVP-level season.
“My first year here [people] probably didn’t even want [me drafted] here. It was probably one of those things. He told us afterwards that the win over the 49ers was always handled by itself.

With Nick Sirianni instilled as the head coach and Wentz traded away, the starting job was Hurts come 2021. He and the rest of the offense had some up and down games, but still managed to finish with a 9-8 record, and one of the most threatening running offenses in the league.
The improved throwing ability and running ability that he has shown in the playoffs have made the Eagles offense unstoppable, like it was in their victory over the 49ers.

“That four-year-old, five-year-old kid back in Houston, back in Philly, back in Texas, Louisiana, wherever across the world, it shows that regardless of what someone may say or have an opinion about you, you can do it.
Hurts was named as one of five nominees for the Most Valuable Player award, which is the highest honor in sports.
“I know I’ve been through a lot personally, but I don’t want to steer away from the direction of how good this team has been at playing together, being together and challenging one another.
“I didn’t put in all that work for no reason,” he said. To have opportunities like this, we put all of this work in. It will be a good one.
“We just want to go out there and do what we’ve done this whole entire time, to try and play clean football and play together. We’ve come here to finish the job.”

On the game-winning drive, Mahomes had another vital rush for 26 yards that put the winners in field-goal position. Television replays showed him wincing as he headed back to the huddle.
“It was just all heart. When told that Kansas City scored on every drive after the first half, tight end Travis Kelce said they knew they didn’t play their best in the first half. The players played out of character in the first half.
The youngest quarterback to ever start three Super Bowls made Chiefs fans feel a lot better on the first drive of the second half, leading his side on a touchdown drive that included a key 14-yard-run.
The best game he had played was in the two years the Philadelphia Eagles and him have been together. I believed that he was in complete control.
