The Cardinal wins 78-70 in the first round of the NCAA tournament with an oblique lead by Brink, Roberts and Roberts
The men’s and women’s basketball tournaments have seen a number of upsets, Cinderella runs, and brackets busted, but some of the higher seeds have handled their business well.
The first top seed to be eliminated from the women’s tournament is no longer a factor, as the men’s round of 16 is set.
The Cardinal was led by Brink, who scored 20 points. Brink did tie the game at 49 with 1:16 to go but a 5-0 run from Ole Miss put the game out of sight and clinched a famous victory.
My goal is to be a dream merchant for my players. It is cool to take down a coach you admire. Like, that was pretty freakin’ cool … so I’ll never forget this.”
The No. 16-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, who earlier in the tournament had become just the second team in men’s NCAA tournament history to knock out a No. 1 seed in the first round after upsetting Purdue, lost 78-70 to the No. 9-seeded Florida Atlantic Owls in the second round on Sunday.
Florida Atlantic went into the half with a 32-25 lead, but the Knights came roaring back, going on an 8-0 run to start the second half to take the lead. However, the Owls took charge and broke the game open with less than five minutes to play.
Owls guard Johnell Davis led scoring with 29 points, while Demetre Roberts’ 20 points kept things close for Fairleigh Dickinson, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

The Knights of the March Madness: The Final Scorecard for the NCAA Tournament and a Closer Look at the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament
Although the Knights’ run came to an end, the team’s spirit, grit and propensity to win against the odds meant it had become many people’s second team, as fans rooted for the dream to continue.
He said “everything” when he was asked what he would remember from the March Madness. Everybody is chanting “F-D-U”. The place is going crazy. The police escort. Leaving the hotel with the band playing. Every part of this I’ll remember forever – and they will, too.”
Michigan State will play No. 3 Kansas State on Thursday, March 23.
2 Texas against No. 15 Princeton on Friday. The Musketeers have concluded the Sweet 16.
Monday is the last day of the round of 16 of the N.C.A.A. women’s basketball tournament. Follow along with the bracket and live scores, and check out our picks for the games we don’t want to miss (teams organized by seed; all times Eastern):
For the second year in a row, Florida Gulf Coast entered the N.C.A.A. tournament as a No. 12 seed, and for the second year, the Eagles beat a No. 5 seed. It was 74-63 over Washington State. Sha Carter led Florida Gulf Coast with 24 points, and Tishara Morehouse added 16 points. The Eagles held the Cougars’ leading scorer, Charlisse Leger-Walker, to 5 points on Saturday. They may not be able to stop the star forward, who is from Villanova. In Villanova’s 76-59 first-round win against Cleveland State, Siegrist scored 35 points and became the fifth Division I women’s player in N.C.A.A. history with at least 1,000 points in a single season.
Indiana routed Tennessee Tech on Saturday in its first game as a top seed in the N.C.A.A tournament. Miami needed a 17 point second half comeback to beat Oklahoma State. Miami is playing to make the second weekend only once, while the Hoosiers are playing to get to their third consecutive game. The universities met in the second round of the mens tournament.
The 10th-seeded Alabama jumped out to an 18 point lead in the first quarter. The third-largest comeback in the tournament’s history was pulled out by the Bears. UConn faced no such struggles, racing to a 53-20 halftime lead on the way to a 95-52 win over Vermont. The last time UConn and Baylor met, in the 2021 tournament’s round of 8, the game ended on a missed shot from Baylor’s DiJonai Carrington that was tightly contested by two UConn defenders, a play that was loudly decried after the game for the absence of a foul call. Can we get the same drama in the second one?
