Movies: Agent of Happiness is a documentary about Bhutan’s approach to measuring its own “gross national happiness.” The film follows one not-especially-happy agent who gathers the data.

In the months since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel, more than half of Gaza’s buildings have been damaged or destroyed by Israel’s military response. The destruction is said to be “domicide,” meaning systematic destruction of homes.

Former President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil attempted to overturn the country’s 2022 presidential election, according to accusations by the Brazilian federal police. Police raided dozens of properties yesterday and arrested his close aides. An investigation found that the right-wing leader and his aides planned to stage a coup. At one point, the report said Bolsonaro personally edited a proposed order to arrest a Supreme Court justice.

The Supreme Court seemed skeptical about the idea that Trump might not be included on the primary ballot in Colorado. The consequences of states deciding who is eligible for national office were brought up by the Conservative Justice, who is nominated by the President. Justice Elena Kagan, a liberal-leaning justice, expressed similar doubts.

The FBI Investigates the Detection of Classified Material in a White Man’s Notebooks: An Address to a Sensitive Attorney General

“Mr. Biden’s decision to read notes nearly verbatim to [ghostwriter Mark] Zwonitzer that Mr. Biden had just identified as potentially classified cannot be justified. The evidence is not enough to prove that he intended to give classified information. Mr. Biden told Zwonitzer he was unsure about the notebook passage. It’s necessary to create reasonable doubt about whether or not Mr. Biden acted willfully.

The report comes at a sensitive time for the president, who is locked in a tight race with Trump, his predecessor as president, who is the front-runner for the Republican nomination, and his handling of the economy and immigration. The special counsel made a startling assertion that he is an elderly man with a poor memory.

Still, Biden sought to dispute the unfavorable parts of the report in a fiery press conference Thursday night, emphasizing his cooperation with the investigation and defending his fitness for office.

What materials have been uncovered, what’s known about how they were handled, as well as legal arguments about whether charges were appropriate are covered in the report.

There are photos of the boxes that contained classified materials, including one damaged box with documents about Afghanistan that was found in the garage of Biden’s home in Delaware “near a collapsed dog crate, a dog bed, a Zappos box, an empty bucket, a broken lamp wrapped with duct tape, potting soil, and synthetic firewood.”

Biden relied on his notebooks for his memoir Promise Me, Dad, which was published in 2017, and reflected on the year his elder son Beau died of cancer.

He shared classified material while reading from his notebooks in conversations with his ghostwriter, and on at least three occassions he spoke with the author about the book.

What you need to know about the classified documents report and the fallout: Biden’s aging father and his mental acuity

It’s hard to prove that Biden willfully intended to break the law if the evidence doesn’t establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

According to the report, Biden would likely present himself as a sympathetic, well- meant, elderly man with a poor memory in front of a jury.

The special counsel attached the public report to a letter written by Biden’s lawyers which pointed out the characterization of his memory in the report.

“The report uses highly prejudicial language to describe a commonplace occurrence among witnesses: a lack of recall of years-old events,” said Richard Sauber, special counsel to the president, and Bob Bauer, Biden’s personal counsel.

The lawyers also note that the 5 hours of interviewing with Biden began the day after the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas, when Biden had numerous meetings with foreign leaders and his national security team.

In his press conference Thursday, Biden further defended his mental acuity, saying his memory was “fine.” He angrily responded to Hur’s description of a portion of an interview where Hur said Biden seemed to not remember when his son died.

“How in the hell dare he raise that?” Biden was emotional, and said that it was not their business. “I don’t need anyone to remind me when he passed away.”

Republicans, including former President Donald Trump who is likely to face Biden in the general election in November, immediately seized on the line as a reason that Biden should no longer be president.

On the Mueller Investigation of the Mar-a-Lago Papers Case, President Biden allegedly mistook El-Sisi of Spain and the U.S. Capitol

The lack of charges is a sign of a two-tiered system of justice according to Trump. Trump is facing more than three dozen federal criminal charges related to his own handling of classified information after boxes of classified material were uncovered in unsecure locations at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Fla.

Hur’s investigation is closed, but the political fallout has begun. Biden will have to contend with renewed attention on his age and convince voters that he should serve another term as president.

In his press conference that began with his defense against the critical parts of the report, Biden, when answering a question about current hostage negotiations with Israel and Hamas, mistakenly said that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt was the “president of Mexico.”

In recent days in off-camera events, Biden has thrice mixed up names of foreign leaders, calling French President Emmanuel Macron “Mitterrand” and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel “Helmut Kohl.” France and Germany were led by former leaders.

Trump’s case includes the Mar-a-Lago documents case. Hours before the Hur report came out, the Supreme Court heard arguments about whether or not Trump could get on the ballot in Colorado for the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

They’re trying to show the public that Biden is good enough to serve another four years. It is a race to prevent Hur from being the FBI in twenty four years.

In the case of 2016 the inspector general found that the DOJ’s practices and protocol were violated due to Comey’s lengthy discussion of un charged conduct. That’s what Goldman said Hur did in this case as well.

This is a point the White House argued on Friday, with Vice President Harris going so far as to describe Hur’s report as “clearly politically motivated.” Hur isn’t sure why he included that information. But when he was named he promised to conduct the probe “with fair, impartial, and dispassionate judgment.”

“Special counsel Hur editorialized and included extraneous information that was not relevant to the ultimate charging decision,” Goldman argued.

“These are people who have stepped out of their normal roles of sticking with the facts in evidence and analyzing if a crime was committed,” said Goldman, a former federal prosecutor and Biden ally.

Biden’s Mental Competence After Hur’s Report: The Most Dangerous Day of the 2016 Presidential Campaign by the FBI – A Call to Protect Hillary Clinton

Republican politicians immediately took to the airwaves to question Biden’s mental competency, citing Hur’s report. It was a predictable reaction and one that allowed Biden’s opponents to highlight what is perhaps his greatest political liability. Public polls show even before this political storm, more than three-quarters of voters were concerned about Biden’s mental and physical health.

It looked like it was good news for Clinton, but the campaign’s communications director said that it was the most damaging day of the campaign.

“Our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case,” Comey said of the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state.

People who participated in Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 presidential campaign are still listening to the echoes of James Clapper’s press conference.
