The Buffalo Bills Football Players’ Association (BNFFA) Associated with a Collapsing NFL Wide Receiver in Cincinnati, Ont.
Hamlin was listed in critical condition early Tuesday at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center after collapsing following a tackle in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin stood up and took a step forward, but then he got up and collapsed backward.
In just seconds, medical personnel were rushing onto the field to administer CPR and resuscitate Hamlin in front of his teammates, many of whom fell to their knees, sent up a prayer or were openly weeping and embracing one another.
The game was agreed on by the owners and the players, the statement said. NFL executive vice president of operations Troy Vincent said in the press call that neither of the teams’ coaches or players asked to continue playing.
Since I have been playing, I have never seen anything like it. “So immediately, my player hat went on. How do you resume play after you’ve seen such a traumatic event occur in front of you in real time?”
Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs arrived at the University of Cincinnati Hospital where Hamlin was being treated late Monday night, ESPN’s broadcast showed.
Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazer recently praised Hamlin’s development over the course of this season, ESPN reports, “including noting in the past couple of weeks that he has stepped up more as a vocal leader and improved as a tackler, with a lot thrown on his plate quickly after he had to step in for Hyde.”
He sat out games in 2016 because of an injury, according to his Pittsburgh panthers player bio. He missed time because of injuries in the past.
• Bills are back to work: The team met Wednesday and held their first full practice of the week Thursday in preparation for hosting the New England Patriots on Sunday. The team has been receiving “incremental updates” from medical staff as well as from Bills general manager Brandon Beane and head athletic trainer Nate Breske who stayed behind in Cincinnati, head coach Sean McDermott said. Josh Allen thinks that the fact that they keep hearing good news about Damar is pushing them forward.
After the Lakers Game against the Hornets On Monday Night, Dallas Cowboys Q.C. Hamlin During the First Game of the NFL Game
He said after the Lakers game against the Hornets on Monday night that the safety of players in all sports is always the most important. It wasn’t good to see.
In the end life is the number one battle, so unity from players, coaches, GMs, owners, fans, and the whole organization is unprecedented. But I think it’s a good light, it sheds a great light on the NFL. The NFL is truly a family.”
Well wishes and prayers were sent by several star athletes, including Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, and free agent Odell Beckham Jr.
Football fans of both teams gathered at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in the early morning to hold a prayer for Hamlin.
Hamlin’s heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was sedated and in critical condition as of early Tuesday morning.
After his injury, fans showed their support for Hamlin by contributing millions of dollars to an online fundraiser that Hamlin started back in 2020 — before he went pro — aimed at buying toys for kids affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in his hometown. As of midday Tuesday it had raised more than $3.8 million, far surpassing its original goal of $2,500.
Damar Hamlin, his family and his GoFundMe campaign: What have fans been telling us about the NFL? How many sports players do we care about?
A young player is in a critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest in the first quarter of a game. CPR was administered on the field before he was driven out of the stadium in an ambulance to a Cincinnati hospital.
Fans also showed their support by pouring millions of dollars into a charity that Hamlin started in 2020, shortly before he was picked in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft.
Fans across the nation are showing their support for him and his family after his injury by donating to his GoFundMe campaign.
The team said that Bills fans made a million dollars donation to a children’s hospital after the death of Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s grandmother.
The league changed its profile pictures on social media to show support for the safety and the Bills after Hamlin collapsed.
“I’m asking all New Yorkers to join me in praying for Damar Hamlin, his family, his teammates, and our brothers and sisters in Buffalo,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said.
“Tonight, we got to see a side of football that is extremely ugly, Clark told ESPN. A side of football that no one wants to see or admit exists.
Clark had a complication with a sickle cell trait and had to be rushed to hospital. He missed the remainder of the season due to his removal of his spleen and gall bladder, but made a full recovery. He went on to become an analyst for ESPN on the NFL and MMA.
“I dealt with this before, and I watched my teammates, for days, come to my hospital bed and just cry. Clark said that he had them call him and tell him that he wasn’t going to make it.
Clark called on football players and their families to have more compassion for themselves, because they put themselves at risk for others.
Next time we are upset about a fantasy player, we will say he’s worthless and we will give him all the money.
“Blown away by how good Scott Van Pelt and Ryan Clark are handling this. They are shining, and it is not an easy assignment. Perspective, class, honesty, emotion, all of it,” sports writer Jason Mackey wrote on Twitter, while former sports writer Matt Lindner said the two hosts’ handling of the coverage will be “taught in journalism classes for years to come.”
A Conversation with Damar Rooney about his Pittsburgh High School Football Player, Darius Rooney, and his Toy Drive, at the University of Pittsburgh
Prior to that, he won a Pennsylvania state championship while at Pittsburgh Central Catholic high school in 2015, leading the team to a 15-1 record as one of the best-rated defenders in the state.
I mean, if there is anyone who I have confidence in making it out of anything, it is him. Rooney told CNN’s Broaddus that he was someone who always figured out a way to win.
“I actually know Damar because him being a division one football player, reached out to me to be an intern for me.” Rooney spoke to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America.
“Which is something that’s pretty unique and the reason why is cause he’s always interested in being an entrepreneur and wanted to build his own brand.
He was employed by me as an intern and we are now partners in a business. We collaborate on a lot of things and we’re really good friends.”
He told CNN that his toy drive has been in Buffalo for three years and he loves being a part of it.
In a 2021 interview with the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Hamlin credited his parents, Mario and Nina Hamlin, for keeping him on a straight path as a kid in McKees Rocks, which the paper said had drug and gang problems that produced one of the highest crime rates in the US.
Hamlin said in an interview with the paper that his parents helped him get back on track when he could have steered left or right.
Hamlin assisted his mother, who was at the game on Monday, in a family cleaning business, which allowed him to attend the private Pittsburgh Central Catholic high school.
Athletes from various sports have sent love and prayers to each other on social media. Among them is his alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh, where he spent five years playing for his hometown before joining the NFL in 2021.
I was in Pittsburgh. Everything was Pittsburgh for me,” he said. I wanted to give the city a reason to smile and give my city something to be proud of.
The Bills Player of the Week: A Conversation with Hamlin in the Aftermath of his First Game at the College Football Futures Center
He has played in all 15 games so far, tallying 91 tackles (tied for second-most on the Bills), six tackles for loss, two pass breakups and 1.5 sacks this season.
Hamlin and Jackson have known each other their entire lives and have described themselves as brothers. They played together for years at the University of Pittsburgh. When Hamlin was drafted by the Bills, he wanted to be able to spend time with his friend.
“game day” Nothing I want more than to run out that tunnel with my brothers. God is using me in a different way today. Tell someone you love them today! Hamlin tweeted.
On the collapse of Tycho’s grandfather, Tee Hamlin, and the Pittsburgh Tribune’s Bethe Ansatz, on Monday night
“My mom, my dad, my little brother, like that’s pretty much my whole world, outside of any other thing going on; my life revolves around them,” he said. “I don’t really do too much without my mom and dad’s opinion. Whether I take it or whether I don’t … sometimes I just want to hear it.”
Years earlier, Hamlin told the Globe that he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh for college in part to be a role model for his brother, who was 2 years old at the time, and cited his parents as his personal role models.
Pittsburgh sports journalist Amanda Godsey tweeted Monday night that her mind went straight to Hamlin’s family after seeing him collapse, recalling that he seemed close to his parents and had his brother on his lap during a media session several years ago.
Hamlin’s family and Allen have also dismissed online criticisms of Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins, who had collided with Hamlin just moments before his collapse. The family’s spokesperson has said Higgins has reached out and “has been supportive.”
It’s a standard practice for the broadcast to cut to commercials during timeouts. When the program resumed, the players were in tears as medical staff helped the stricken athlete. ESPN announcer Joe Buck seemed stunned into silence along with everyone else.
At one point, Buck said, “There’s nothing else to say right now” as the Bills’ faces were shown with emotion and concern.
An ambulance rushing towards Hamlin, Cincinnati’s quarterback and the Bengals’ locker room after the game kicked down on the field
9 pm. An ambulance was seen backing rapidly across the field toward Hamlin at Cincinnati’s Paycor Stadium, in a video posted by local sports reporter Joe Danneman of local TV station FOX 19.
“The entire Bills team is out on the field right now,” Salters said. “Several players are down on their knees, other players are holding hands, praying. You can just see the worried looks on their faces.”
Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow and other Bengals also gathered near midfield. After minutes of hushed quiet in the stadium, brief applause broke out when Hamlin was seen on a stretcher.
Shortly after Hamlin’s injury the 53-year-old man received a text from his mother, who was in San Antonio. You need to watch the football game. A PLAYER COLLAPSED.
“I have zero clue how anybody is expected to continue playing this game,” The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr., who is based in Cincinnati, tweeted. That scene was terrifying.
9:14 p.m. — “Players are coming back on the field and it looks like the game will continue,” ESPN’s Ben Baby reported. With his helmet back on, he was throwing passes.
“They have been given 5 minutes to get ready to go back and play,” Buck said. Nobody’s moving and that’s what the league and the team get from down on the field.
Both of their teams were brought back to their locker rooms after a meeting by both of their coaches. “They were seen in the tunnel between locker rooms meeting with the game officials and passing a phone to each other. Shortly after that phone call, the league announced play was to be suspended indefinitely.”
Zac Taylor walked to the Bills locker room area and waited outside as he and Sean McDermott had a conversation with referees.
Bills-Bengals Game Isn’t Going to resummation, and How Did the Players Get Warmup?
As questions lingered about the apparent initial plan to resume play, local TV station WCPO, which was carrying the game, noted that the five-minute warmup period is standard protocol after most delays.
The station also said that before the game was formally suspended, Burrow and other Bengals players had left their home locker room to join Bills players in the visitors’ facility.
1:34 p.m. Tuesday — The NFL issued a statement saying the Bills-Bengals game will not be resumed this week — the 18th and final week of its season — adding that the league “has made no decision regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date.”
“The players didn’t have time to get warm up,” Garafolo quotedVincent as saying. “It never crossed our mind to talk about warming up to resume play. That is ridiculous. That’s insensitive. That’s not a place we should ever be in.”
Hamlin was resuscitated twice on the field and once at the University of Cincinnati Medical Centre, where he was still being treated, his uncle said.
Glenn said that he had never cried so much in his life, while watching those uncertain moments unfold on a screen. My nephew died in the field and they brought him back to life. It’s just a very sad thing. To see all those grown men crying and the emotion … man, it really was a gut punch.”
Hamlin’s Collapse in Buffalo, New York, and a Case Study with a Bronchilling Cardiomyopathy Machine
Dion Dawkins said he realized the gravity of Hamlins condition when he continued to remain on the ground as more and more medical staff were called over.
In that moment, you are wondering, what can I do? What can we do?’ Dawkins said that it breaks you down into prayer. “Whether you’re a believer or not, only a higher power can really take control of what is next. And our people that help also assisted that higher power.”
Hamlin’s collapse is the latest in a string of recent tragedies that have struck the community of Buffalo and its beloved football team, including a racist mass shooting and a historic blizzard that left at least 41 people dead in Erie County, New York.
Hamlin had Cardiac Arrest, a condition in which the heart stops beating properly, and it is not known what happened to him. Death can occur quickly if help isn’t rendered immediately. It is not the same as a heart attack or heart failure.
CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta explained that when the heart is not beating well, fluid can sometimes back up into the lungs and make it hard for medical staff to oxygenate the patient. They will put a person on their stomach to make breathing easier.
He said that by sedating somebody, you could decrease the demand, but you can also keep them on a breathing machine. Sometimes they use cooling agents to make the body less thirsty so that it doesn’t demand as much oxygenated blood. That is one of the reasons he would be on a breathing machine.
Damar, Trevor, and Hamlin: Getting back on the field and playing football for the Jaguars, the city of Pittsburgh, and after the mass shootings
The best way to move forward is obviously by keeping an eye on Damar and the updates that we get. Leaning on each other, talking to each other,” he said. We had a lot of honest and deep talks with each other. Some unbelievable, this sounds weird, but some embraces as men, just hugging somebody and actually just leaning into them.
In the past, the Monday game wouldn’t have been called off. “Alright, get back onto that field and lock in,” the coaches would have said. I want to play on. But that didn’t happen.
Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said he and his teammates were blessed to be able to play professional football, but that Hamlin’s injury was a reminder that “this game is a dangerous sport.”
The continued shock of Hamlin’s hospitalization – on top of the city’s mass shooting in May, deadly December blizzard, having a home game in November moved to Detroit and getting stuck in Chicago during the holidays – has been heavy on everyone associated with the club, the source said.
The scouting report on the star defensive back from the University of Pittsburgh said he had great instincts and a nose for the ball, but that he was undersized and perhaps a bit slow.
“I’m willing to do whatever just to be a contributor on the team, man. “I don’t care if I have to pass out water at halftime,” he said. “No matter what it is, I’m willing to do it. I do not have any pride.
Tom Hamlin and the Buffalo Bills “Blessings” on the loss of their rookies, Jackson, in a game where a tackle turns a slash
The chance of a lifetime and the uncomfortable reminders of the perils of football, had been a part of Hamlin’s ride before Monday.
In a Bills media interview in November, he said, “Me and my family were all looking forward to being able to come in and learn.” “Some rookies, they have the pressure of having to get out there right away. They might burn their fire because they aren’t ready.
In the September game against Tennessee, Jackson took a gruesome looking hit to the head and neck while trying to tackle.
Hamlin seemed to take every opportunity to count his blessings even after he racked up tackles and was playing time for the media and fans.
He and Jackson would build each other up, reminding each other that they were where they wanted to be.
He said, “You never know when the last day is going to be that you’re getting to experience something like this.”
The Detroit Lions Benchmark in 1971: Chuck Hughes walked into a bench to apologize to the Lions quarterback and went on to tell everybody he loved
Editor’s Note: Jeff Pearlman is the author of 10 books including his latest, “The Last Folk Hero: The Life and Myth of Bo Jackson.” The views are of his own. Read more opinion on CNN.
There is a black-and-white image that was on the front page of the Detroit Free Press when it was published in 1971.
Within a few minutes of Hughes being pronounced dead, Lions quarterback Greg Landry threw a 12-yard pass to Charlie Sanders. Afterward, members of both teams were horrified (“I wish they called the game off,” Chicago’s Bob Wallace said), but had little say. There was a stadium stuffed with fans. There was a division title to fight for. There were paychecks to be cashed.
The Free Press executive sports editor wrote, “From the moment Dick Butkus, the huge Chicago BearsLB, began waving frantically at the Lions bench, it was obvious that Chuck Hughes was in serious trouble.”

BoOM! BOOM! POW! and POP! When Brandon Hughes, Hamlin, was killed, and his mother, Sharon, was 77
The land of soft drinks is located in the National Football League. They have potato chips. It’s the land of $169 embroidered jerseys and $59 hats (both available now at NFL.com! Free shipping if you order ASAP!). It’s the land of gambling apps and fantasy leagues; of shiny helmets and colorful uniforms and scantily clad cheerleaders and adults dressed as foamy barnyard animals. The NFL brings your suppressed aggressions to life every Sunday afternoon and is designed to get you to pay attention. It is BOOM! POW! and POP!
When, in 1971, Hughes was removed from the field, league officials knew he was dead (“We reached him and there was no pulse,” said Dr. Richard A. Thompson, an osteopath on the scene), then took all of 10 minutes to decide the action must continue.
Some of the fans who agree with this are trying to show respect, but coming from NFL-associated voices, it started to sound too much like unofficial/official dogma: Drink your Pepsi. Eat your Tostitos. Wear your foam finger. Don’t pay attention to the carnage.
Brandon Hughes was only 1 when his dad died, but as soon as he heard of the death of Hamlin, he felt angry. Brandon, an employee at a mutual fund company, told me that everything they were saying was familiar to him. “But they kept talking about how this is unprecedented, how that is unprecedented. I thought, ‘No, no it’s not. Not at all.’ ”
Brandon Hughes called his mother Sharon – now 77 but widowed at 24. She sounded saddened—both by the uncertainty of Hamlin’s future and the familiar echoes of past tragedy.
The Pittsburgh Colts Game and “Monday Night Football” with Jordan Glenn on-field after his nephew Hamlin collapses: “Girl of Hope for Buffalo”
Glenn traveled 300 miles to be with the second-year NFL player and his immediate family early Tuesday morning, he told CBS. He’d been watching the game at home in Pittsburgh when his nephew collapsed on-field.
After watching the terrifying event unfold, Colts safety Rodney Thomas drove from Indianapolis to see his friend Hamlin in Cincinnati. Meanwhile, NFL fans held vigils outside the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where Hamlin was sedated and intubated in the ICU.
“I know he could hear me,” said Thomas of Hamlin, whom he had met at Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, where the two were teammates and became close friends.
The final game of the season averaged 21.1 million viewers on ABC, making it an important game with playoff implications. After Hamlin’s collapse, “Monday Night Football” becomes the most watched show in its history, with an audience of 23.19 million.
“You have to have the right type of blow hitting at the right spot on the chest with the right amount of force at just the right time in that cardiac cycle. He said a lot of things have to line up, and that investigators will consider all options.
The medical staff of NFL teams have a “a written emergency action plan,” including sudden cardiac arrest, head and neck trauma and abdominal or chest trauma, according to Drezner, who explained those plans are practised twice before the season begins – once at their practice facility and once at the stadium which hosts games.
A high-ranking official within the Bills told CNN’s Coy Wire that they broke down in tears after day and night-long meetings on Tuesday, crying because of the heaviness of the situation.
The series of difficult blows to Buffalo have emotionally piled up within the organization, the source said, adding that through it all, the team has tried to be a source of strength for the city, the source tells Wire.
The source pointed to the performance of Buffalo Sabres hockey forward Tage Thompson on Tuesday night as a “glimmer of hope” at a time when the team needs inspiration.
Hamlin wore his jersey number three throughout the game on January 3. Thompson’s three goals during overtime brought the Sabres a win. It was Thompson’s third hat trick of the season and his third goal came fortuitously in the third minute of overtime.
“How in the world were we living in a world where a player was tragically paralyzed during a game, and minutes later, the whistles blew, and the game played on as if nothing had happened?”
I was playing in a game for the Buffalo Bills when my wife asked if I remembered seeing a tragic scene. Kevin fell limp to the turf after a collision on the kick return that left him with a severe spine injury. She was one of the 70,000+ fans in the stadium who watched on in silence as Kevin fought for his life. An emergency procedure may have saved his life. He never played again.
That’s why, as the horrific scene unfolded on Monday night – when Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed to the turf, and as tears came pouring down players’ faces as they prayed around him on bended knees – I started to feel nauseous just like my wife did that day in Buffalo years ago. As haunting memories came back in, mental wounds were reopened.
During my playing days at Stanford University, my teammate and fellow running back, Kerry Carter, collided with University of Washington player Curtis Williams, who ran up to make a tackle. He was paralyzed from the neck down. Players cried, prayed, then played on. 18 months later, two days after his 24th birthday, Curtis died due to complications from the paralysis suffered that day. The collision still hurts my teammate.
How Good Was Hamlin in the Hospital? How Many Athletes Should You Give? Dion Dawkins of the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs
“I think the fact that we just keep hearing good news about Damar, it just keeps pushing us forward.” Allen referred to Hamlin’s “Substantial Improvement” in the hospital.
As players, in the past, we were conditioned to compartmentalize physical and mental pain – our own and others’. We learned not to focus on the negative because it can hinder optimal performance. We were trained to go out and fight whenever something bad happened. Playing on even though you have tragic injuries was all we knew.
The decision to end that game was made by the head coaches, Sean McDermott of the Buffalo Bills and Bill Davis of the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as the league commissioner and others. We can not comprehend the impact that decision may have.
Those coaches were cognizant of and concerned about their players’ mental health. After seeing the teary eyes and traumatized looks on their players’ faces, they determined it wasn’t worth trying to continue that game.
Dion Dawkins told CNN that he was thankful that they didn’t have to keep playing. Most people treat us athletes as superstars. Some people are like celebrities, but they treated us like people.
There are still some people, though, who think that the players should have continued playing. You don’t have to use social media to find out that some people care more about their fantasy football team performance than their own health and well-being. I guess that’s to be expected. That is the way it has always been.
UCMC physician Timothy Pritts said that he has made substantial improvement after the injury that happened on the field.
When Hamlin collapsed: How much do you know? How the Buffalo Bills player and the NFL quarterback say goodbye to his father after he collapsed
Hamlin has a breathing tube which prevents him from speaking, but he is able to communicate through writing. He is also able to move his hands, feet and head.
“He expressed surprise that he had not been with the world for a couple days and we talked about the support from the team and really the world for him and his family at the time,” UCMC physician William Knight IV said.
Hamlin’s father spoke to the Buffalo Bills team on a call Wednesday so they could know that Hamlin was making progress.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell informed all clubs of his decision Thursday after contacting the Bills, Bengals and NFL Players Association leadership, according to a release from the league.
Bills quarterback Allen said that while “people are going to be changed forever” from what took place on Monday, he thinks “putting that helmet back on was a really good thing for our team and just to go through that process.”
“I hope that he got some relief today,” Allen said of Higgins while speaking to reporters Thursday. He hoped that he did not hold onto that football play, because there was nothing else he could have done.
Medical personnel who rushed to Hamlin after he collapsed have been applauded by the doctors and Bills team members.
The Bills medical and athletic training staff members were recognized ahead of the game, including assistant athletic trainer Denny Kellington, the man credited with saving Hamlin’s life.
Practice paid off in the case of Hamlin, according to McDermott at the post-practice news conference. “But again, the context of it, for an assistant to find himself at that position and needing to take the action that he did and step up and take charge like he did – and there were others on the field as well – is nothing short of amazing and (the) courage that took, you talk about a real leader, a real hero, in saving Damar’s life.”
Damar Hamlin tells the Bills ‘Hey Brain Is Stop Pumping, And It’s Still Not Necessary’
Both the Bills and Cincinnati have already qualified for the playoffs, which will be unaffected by the cancellation. But the imbalance in number of games played has prompted the league to approve unprecedented provisions for the postseason based on how the Bills and Bengals are seeded and their potential opponents.
The situation where Kellington was able to step up and take the charge, as well as the rest of the team, is nothing short of amazing, said the coach during the news conference.
The brain and other organs don’t receive oxygen because the heart is no longer pumping blood. Seconds matter: The longer a person goes without oxygen, the chances of organ damage increase, and the chances of survival decrease. CPR mimics a pumping heart, which keeps blood flowing, and a defibrillator shocks the heart, which can cause it to start beating again.
Kellington has been a member of the Bills’ training staff since 2017. Kellington was the athletic trainer at Syracuse University for 11 years, and six of which were spent as the head athletic trainer for the football team. He also previously served as a graduate student athletic trainer at Ohio State University, the school confirmed to CNN.

The Cleveland Clinic: Dr. Allen Sills and the Buffalo Bills’ News Conference with Dr. Thomas McDermott and CNN Sports Investigating Damar Hamlin’s Collapse
A voice said, “We’re going to need everybody.” All call. Within the minute, several other cries go out for all personnel to rush to the field.
“It’s certainly not an exaggeration to say that the skilled and the immediate response by all of these talented caregivers prevented a very tragic outcome at that moment,” NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills said Wednesday.
McDermott also opened the Bills’ news conference Thursday with a word of thanks for “the first responders on the field this past Monday evening and the medical teams of the Bills, the Bengals and the staff, doctors and nurses at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for their work and their care.”
Men and women broke into tears when they embraced their Buffalo Bills counterpart in the Paycor Stadium, after Damar Hamlin collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.
In an interview with CNN Sports, a professor at Clark University told the interviewer that what they saw last week shows that the sport has become more emotional than it has been in the past.
It is a sign that we are better prepared to acknowledge emotional and physical health problems in men, since all that kind of traditional laws of masculinity will teach us to hide that.
Allen said they had had some very open and honest talks. Some embrace as men, just hugging one another, and others just leaned into them. There has been many of that going around and you really do need it.
Damar Hamlin ‘nfl-response-spt-intl’: How do people get back to work?
“For some people, getting back to business is what it’s all about. And it’s a healthy distraction from what they’re experiencing,” said Addis. There is no way that other people are going to get back to work so early.
“Personally, I think playing is going to be tough, but there’s people that want to play, too, and there’s people that don’t. Personally, I want to play.
“I think getting back to as normal as you can as fast as you can is personally how I kind of deal with these kinds of things. Everyone has their own way of dealing with it.
The players are used to seeing broken bones. They’re used to concussion protocols,” Addis said. “This was an ordinary, run-of-the-mill play that came close to resulting in a player’s death.
For all of the players involved, and possibly for fans, the risk of triggering trauma responses is very real.
Over the last few years, the sporting world has become more conscious about athletes’ mental health, but as the NFL season nears its conclusion, Addis questions if players will have the time and the space to process their emotions.
I don’t think the institution of the sport is ready to be asflexible about this as the players may need, so I’m curious to see how this plays out.

The Seattle Seahawks are truly a family. I have been there, and I’m glad you’re here, but what have I missed in the last few years?
According to Jonathan A. Drezner, director of the University of Washington’s medicine center for sports cardiology and team physician for the Seattle Seahawks, the readiness to act quickly in an emergency is due to hours of planning and preparation.
It is planning for the what ifs. And so I think within the NFL, we actually have quite a robust emphasis on being prepared,” added the Seahawks team physician.
Each year before the season begins, players are given yearly electrocardiograms to look for signs of disease, according to Drezner.
“Most sudden cardiac arrest in young competitive athletes is from a preexisting heart condition. And again, these are the types of heart condition that you look for through screening, but no screening is perfect.”
Dawkins described the emotional “roller coaster” this week has been for the team – who watched in shock as Hamlin received CPR on the field and was carried from the stadium in an ambulance. He said the Hamlin improvement will fuel the team in its Sunday game against the patriots.
Hamlin began to wake up late this week and was able to have his breathing tube removed before Friday, according to physicians.
The time is 9:45 pm. Hamlin wrote in the post. The image showed him with his hands together in a heart sign and wearing a number 3 hat and a “Love for Damar” shirt.
Displays of support will continue this weekend as the league prepares for an emotional return to competition for the final games of the regular season on Saturday and Sunday. Hamlin will be honored by the NFL before each game.
Bills players and head coach Sean McDermott could be seen wearing Hamlin’s number 3 on their chests, and fans throughout the stadium hoisted signs honoring Hamlin.
Brandon Beane, who remained in Cincinnati to stay with Hamlin and his family after the game was postponed, said the unified message of support shows how competitive the sport is.
We are going to battle. Life is the number one battle, said Beane on Friday. “And to see that unity from players, coaches, (general managers), owners, fans, is unheard of. I think it is a good light. It sheds a great light on the NFL. The NFL is truly a family.”
The Philadelphia Eagles Running Back Done Right, but Did Not Touch the Ground? When Did Hamlin Run Through the Tunnel? A Memo Memo Memoir
The Philadelphia Eagles running back talked to Hamlin over the internet and told him he was the most famous person in the world.
He wrote, “It’s GameDay and There’s nothing I want more than to be running out that tunnel with my brothers.” “God Using Me In A Different Way Today! Tell someone you love them today. He added the hashtag #Prayfor3, his jersey number.
There is a quote from Hamlin that says if you get a chance to show some love today, do it! It will cost you nothing. Hamlin added a photo of Allen and said it was his quarterback.
In Orchard Park, the public address announcer read a statement of support for Hamlin and received a roar from the crowd. Fans all around the stadium held up signs of support for Hamlin such as “BILLI3VE,” “All the heart for #3,” “Love for Damar” and “Thank You Medical Staff!”
The Bills gave Hamlin something to smile about immediately once the game began. The crowd went nuts when the Bills returned the opening kick for a 96-yard touchdown and Hamlin was effusive in his praise.
McDermott said he had exchanged texts with Hamlin Saturday night and Sunday morning. When asked about the health of Hamlin in his interview on CBS, he said it had made a big difference in getting their minds off of that and concentrating on the game.
Hamlin’s teammates, many of whom were in tears as they watched the medical team resuscitate the 24-year-old, met Wednesday for a walk-through and held their first full practice of the week Thursday.
In a news conference ahead of Sunday’s game, Bills quarterback Josh Allen told reporters focusing on football has been hard with their teammate still in the hospital.
Damar’s father: What have we learned in the last three games? I’m glad to hear about him, but what are we waiting for?
You really do need every bit of that, because there is a lot of that going around. I think the fact that we hear good news about Damar every now and then is pushing us forward.
McDermott has been praised by his players for his handling of Hamlin’s situation and the 48-year-old says the number one priority is the health and well-being of his players.
On Thursday, McDermott spoke to reporters and said a call on Wednesday from the father of Damar had helped the players feel more prepared for the game.
“Damar’s father spoke to the team and really his message was, the team needs to get back to focusing on the goals that they had set for themselves,” McDermott said Thursday.
Dawkins told CNN that seeing his father’s expression was all they needed to take a giant step forward.
We have a job to do, but really we are just worried about him and his family. and I’m just trying to get updates and make sure that he’s OK and be there for the Bills and their organization as well,” he told reporters.
A lot of emotions and things like that running around make it hard to stay focused on the game. One thing you can do is continue your routine, continue your prayers, and focus on each day because it is hard to do and that is what you have to do.
Hamlin’s Collapse in the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tennessee Titans: Putting the “Love out of the World” after a “TeV”
TheJacksonvilleJaguars and the TennesseeTitans took a knee before their game on Saturday. The players from teams across the league wore Hamlin’s jersey to show their support. Journalists for ABC turned microphone flags upside down to make their logo look like a “3.”
Hamlin took to social media Saturday and thanked his supporters for their prayers and good vibes after his collapse.
“Putting love into the world comes back 3xs as much… thankful for everyone who has reached out and prayed,” he said. “This will make me stronger on the road to recovery, keep praying for me!”
Patrick Mahomes said that it was important for him to go out there and play his best football after months of work. It will be a little weird when you get to that field, it was such a frightening incident. That was terrifying.”
Howard Bryant, a sports commentator with Meadowlark Media, told NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday that injuries such as Hamlin’s will always be a part of football as it’s currently played.
What is the line about football? It’s one sport with a 100% injury rate. Bryant stated that the goal in football was to hurt people. “So when you see something like this, there’s no way out.”
Damar Hamlin, the Buffalo Bills Safety, played the first game since #3 on the field for a touchdown and saved a life
Growing up, I had never watched a football game in person but I did it in 2002 when I played my first football game. My childhood dream came true here in Buffalo. I would end up playing six of my nine NFL seasons here in front of the best fans in the world. Being a member of the Buffalo Bills is one of the greatest honors of my life.
But this week was tough. I played safety – the same position as Hamlin – and I have a sense of what the players on this Bills team were going through this week.
Then something magical happened. On the very first play of Buffalo’s first game since #3 suffered cardiac arrest on the field, NyHeim Hines took the opening kickoff back 96 yards for a touchdown.
“I guarantee you that Damar Hamlin will play professional football again,” Dr. Thom Mayer, medical director of the NFL Players Association, said on SiriusXM Doctor Radio’s “Heart to Heart” program on Wednesday.
CNN sports anchor and former Bills player Coy Wire said the league’s ability to act quickly to save a life is the biggest positive to come out of the season.
“Outside of the highlight reel players, outside of the comebacks we saw, the parity and the competition that brings excitement – 50% of the playoff teams this year were new to the playoffs – aside from that, perhaps the league’s greatest achievement this year was bringing to light the importance of CPR preparedness,” Wire said.
The league and team prepared for Monday night’s game in Buffalo when Hamlin went into cardiac arrest.
Health personnel have invested in bringing in top professionals by bringing in the best of the best, which resulted in saving a young man’s life. And I’m incredibly proud of that.”
Hamlin said, “Thank God for being here, and thank the other guys who did the work in their community, who did the work on behalf of their community.”
“Giving back to my community has always been a big part of who I am. Thankful to my father who is right here behind me. Growing up just watching him do community days in our community and I just always waiting on my time when it came.
Hamlin said that he plans to never take this position for granted and would always have an urgent approach to making a difference in the community where he comes from.
NFL Players in the Presence of Concussions: A Remark on the Football Players and Coaches in the State of Washington
The award “recognizes one player who demonstrates a profound dedication to positively impacting his team’s city and communities across the country,” according to the NFLPA.
The league experienced an increase in concussions during the regular season as compared to the past season, when total injuries suffered were down, according to a report by the league.
If a player receives a blow to the head and shows any symptoms or signs of a concussion, they are subject to the concussion protocol in the National Football League.
Goodell added: “We encourage players and coaches and everyone else to come forward when they have symptoms so we can deal with those medically and make sure that they are handled professionally.”
One of the biggest problems with concussions and blows to the head is their association with a deadly brain disease known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
