The leaked classified information obtained from US media outlets in 2016 was accessed by 43 congressional staffers, almost evenly split between Republicans and Democrats, according to a report by Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s office. The staffers were involved in a criminal investigation for performing constitutionally authorised oversight of the executive branch, the report said.
