The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a new rule that requires large coal-fired power plants to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by 90% from 1990 levels. “The public health and environmental benefits of this proposed rule will be tremendous,” said EPA administrator Michael Regan at a press conference on 10 May.
