A US-based research project has proposed adding sea salt to marine clouds to brighten and cool them. Researchers could use remote-controlled ships to spray salt into low-lying stratocumulus clouds to make them brighter. The project is a collaboration between the University of Washington, the Palo Alto Research Center and other institutions.
