Shawn Fain, who led the US-based United Auto Workers’ (UAW) strike, was an executive at General Motors in the early 2000s. He had worked at the automaker’s Kokomo plant in Indiana for eight years. He then took a job at Solidarity House in Detroit, where he worked with officials who negotiated national contracts with automakers.
