A new Quest Headset is announced by Meta

Asgard’s Wrath 2 and Samba de Amigo in Meta’s Quest headsets: What’s in it for me?

This seems like an obvious match: the soothing washing game Powerwash Simulator is getting a VR version for Meta’s Quest headsets. Sometime this year, it will be available.

Meta teased a Ghostbusters VR title at last year’s gaming showcase, and on Thursday, Meta revealed a new story trailer for the game, which is set in San Francisco and lets you play co-op with up to three of your friends. Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is scheduled to come out this fall.

Sega is bringing Samba de Amigo to Quest headsets this fall, meaning you’ll be able to shake virtual maracas in VR to an assortment of 40 hit songs. This one makes sense to me. Beat Saber was fun but it will almost certainly be more silly than this one.

You can become Vecna if you want to while watching the fourth season of “Stranger Things” on a virtual reality headset. The trailer for the game that Meta showed at the show might be too scary for me. The game is set to launch this fall.

This year, you can add Quest headsets to the list of platforms that you can play assassin’s Creed on thanks to a new game, Assassin’s Creed. The title will be showcased more at the event on June 12th, but it was not given much else during Thursday’s show.

A sequel to the well-regarded action-adventure Asgard’s Wrath was one of the biggest spotlights for Meta. Meta is promising that this will be a big game and that the campaign will exceed 60 hours, with a rogue lite dungeon mode as well as sword fighting, ax throwing, puzzles, mini games, and even fishing. You can watch a nearly nine-minute developer walkthrough for the sequel to Asgard’s Wrath 2 here.

First demonstration of the Meta Quest 3 headset with the Magic Leap 2 and MetaQuest 2 headphones before the WWDC software event

The Meta Quest 3, on the other hand, is more of a consumer-friendly device. Hours before the Meta quest Gaming showcase, the company announced a headset which would compliment the suite of games and experiences on the platform.

Anticipation for Apple’s new product is so heightened that other companies are scrambling to position their wares ahead of next week. The ThinkRealityVRX headset is currently shipping at a price of $1,200. Magic Leap, which has been working on augmented reality technology since 2010 and holds thousands of patents, has met with press to show off its Magic Leap 2 headset. The Magic Leap One headset was thinner and lighter, but like theLenovo headset it was aimed at enterprise customers.

Meta’s headset news comes ahead of Apple’s WWDC software event next week, where the company will reportedly reveal a years-in-the-making face computer of its own. Apple has been meeting with app developers in recent months to entice them to build experiences for what the company considers a new platform. This would be the first major launch of a new hardware product line for Apple since it introduced the Apple Watch in 2015. Apple introduced the HomePod speaker in late 2017, but that wasn’t a new platform for apps.

The Meta Quest 3 is 40 percent lighter and contains twice the processing power as the previous headset, but this was demonstrated this morning by the company. Also, the hand controllers have been redesigned to improve their ergonomics. The new headset will be available for $500 this fall. In a blog post, the company teased that more details about the Quest 3 would be revealed at Meta Connect on September 27.
