Apple’s AI can help with writing emails, reports, and personal text messages. The Messages can be generated with images that are informed by the conversation you are having. If you and your friends are chatting about throwing a party on top of a building, the images you generate will help decide what the party will be. It can even generate AI images of the people you’re talking to. If you take a picture of her face and match it to a photo you have identified, the artificial intelligence will generate an illustration of her. (If your mom is anything like mine, she will deeply hate this.)
The deal allows Apple’s millions of users to access technology from OpenAI, one of the highest-profile artificial intelligence companies of recent years. OpenAI has already established partnerships with a variety of technology and publishing companies, including a multibillion-dollar deal with Microsoft.
Of course, Apple is arriving late to the artificial intelligence party, and has found itself in the position of needing to partner with a more established AI company to gain a foothold in the current arms race. In April, rumors emerged that Apple might be partnering with Google to utilize its Gemini AI on iPhones, but that doesn’t seem to have panned out. Apple is going to be working with OpenAI to make the first big batches of enhancements.

The company that once was reticent to use the term artificial intelligence when talking about its machine learning features is now much more open to using the term. Of course, this being WWDC, none of what Apple announced today is out now, but coming in the fall instead.
Apple has to have a privacy story. The company says its AI features will be processed on-device to keep information private. But you’ll need an A17 Pro or M-series chip to take advantage. Part of the story, too, though, is a “semantic index” that will grab personal details when they’re needed and surface them across apps.

When typing a message in Mail, you can ask your digital assistant to change the tone of the message. The company says that writing features like this are available system-wide, anywhere you can type.
A new way to summarize emails and make responses is one of a bunch of new artificial intelligence features Apple is rolling out. The company showed off its new Genmoji feature, letting you create custom emoji based on a text prompt, along with a new AI image generator called Image Playground.
Apple is adding artificial intelligence to the Photos app. Apple says it will improve how it works, so you can search for something like a person who is doing cartwheels in the future. It also added features similar to Google’s Magic Eraser, like the ability to erase a person from a photo.

Apple says Siri’s updated design makes it more prominent across the device, displaying a glowing multi-colored border on the screen when in use. When users use their words poorly while speaking to the assistant it can make her understand them more, meaning that she can provide more context to the request in order to make it happen.
Users can also now type their questions and requests to Siri by double-tapping on the bottom of the screen and can continue those actions via both typing and voice.
For the incoming ChatGPT integration, Apple says Siri will be able to “tap into ChatGPT’s expertise when it may be helpful for you,” such as when asking for recipe advice. If users grant permission, they will be able to see the information on the device screen if they approve the request.

iMessage is getting other improvements, including the ability to schedule texts and send messages via satellite. Apple is giving you the chance to bold, underline, and italicize text with its Tapback options.

As rumored last week, Apple has revealed a new Passwords app that will let you keep track of your login details across different devices. Passwords can be generated and store in the app like LastPass and 1Password. Passwords will be available on all of the above operating systems.
The iPad has not had a calculator app since it was released over a decade ago. With the new feature called Math Notes, you can use the Apple Pencil to write equations on your iPad and have the app solve it for you.
Apple is launching a Smart Script feature as well, which uses machine learning to improve the appearance of your handwriting and spell-check your notes.
Apple’s next macOS update will let you mirror your iPhone on your Mac. You’ll be able to interact with your iPhone directly from your Mac, letting you view notifications and hear the audio playing from your mobile device.

Apple is launching Siri Interactions in its next AirPods Pro software update, letting you shake your head yes or no to respond to Siri’s announcements. Voice Isolation is an added feature of the AirPods Pro to improve voice quality and reduce noise.
This is all the news that Apple announced at the conference. Most of the features will be available in the fall when Apple updates its software on each of its devices.
While the cloud is where many generativeAI programs run, Apple says it’s more suited to use models on its devices. It can determine if a query needs to be sent off to the cloud for use in a more powerful model or if it will be kept private.
