How to use an Artificial Intelligence in a chatbot

Gemini Pro, the Biggest and Best Upgrade yet for Bard: Designing a Gemini-Powered Assistant on Pixel Phones

The small is the start of the search engine’s project. Smart Reply is not available in other apps, though it is expected to be available next year. And Gemini as a whole is only rolling out in English right now, which means many users won’t be able to use it at all. The Pixel 8 Pro won’t be a massive upgrade over time, though it might be if something like Gemini is good. And next year, when Google brings a Gemini-powered Bard to Assistant on Pixel phones, you’ll get even more of the Gemini experience.

Sissie Hsiao, who runs Bard and Assistant at Google, said in a press briefing that Gemini represents the “biggest and best upgrade yet” for Bard. It should be a marked improvement for just about everything Bard already does: summarizing, brainstorming, writing, and the like. Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, tells me that, in his testing, he’s found that there’s not so much a whizbang new feature as there is just an overall improvement across the board. “I think people are just going to find that the product got a lot better,” he says. It knows their intent better, and it answers better. It’s more factual, higher quality. If you’re trying to code it’s better!”

Bard is now running Gemini Pro, the middle tier of the Gemini series. Ultra is the biggest and slowest but the most capable, Nano is small and fast and meant for on-device tasks, and Pro sits right in the middle. It is supposed to be the Goldilocks version of the model, with fast and efficient, but still as capable as possible.

In those benchmarks (which really are mostly very close) Gemini’s clearest advantage comes from its ability to understand and interact with video and audio. multimodality has been part of the plan from the beginning. The way Openlai created DALL-E andWhisper was to build one multi sensory model from the beginning and not separate models for images and voice. Hassabis said they’ve always been interested in general systems. He’s especially interested in how to mix all of those modes — to collect as much data as possible from any number of inputs and senses and then give responses with just as much variety.

After being accused of being caught up in the hype of the new website, and declaring a “code red” after launch, Google seems to be holding fast to its motto of “bold and responsible”. As we get closer to the ultimate artificial general intelligence dream, both Hassabis and Pichai are unwilling to move too quickly just to keep up. Hassabis says things will be different as they approach AGI. I think we have to approach that cautiously because it is an active technology. Really cautiously, but optimistically.

Talking to Pichai and Hassabis, it’s clear that they see the Gemini launch both as the beginning of a larger project and as a step change in itself. Gemini is the model Google has been waiting for, the one it has been building toward for years, maybe even the one it should have had ready before OpenAI and ChatGPT took over the world.

GPT-4: an Artificial Intelligence Platform to Support Multimodality on Google Maps and Google Workspaces, and an Update to the Gemini Website

Demis Hassabis has never been shy about proclaiming big leaps in artificial intelligence. Most notably, he became famous in 2016 after a bot called AlphaGo taught itself to play the complex and subtle board game Go with superhuman skill and ingenuity.

In what appeared to be a veiled reference to Openai’s technology, Hassabis says that until now models have approximated multimodality by training separate modules and stitching them together. It’s ok for some tasks, but you can’t have this sort of deep complex reasoning.

In September, an upgrade was made to the chatbot that gives it the ability to take images and audio as input. OpenAI has not disclosed technical details about how GPT-4 does this or the technical basis of its multimodal capabilities.

Gemini is also only available in English, though Google plans to roll out support for other languages soon. Due to the European Union’s lack of a generative artificial intelligence platform, this is the first time that this update has been available in Europe.

Do you already have a Google account? You can simply log in with your browser and visit the website in Bard’s Gemini account. Google does not allow access to Bard if you are not willing to create an account. Users of Google Workspace accounts may need to switch over to their personal email account to try Gemini.

A Guide to Crafting Better Prompts for Google’s Bard, and Some Tips for the Google Gemini nia

So how is the anticipated Gemini Ultra different from the currently available Gemini Pro model? According to Google, Ultra is its “most capable mode” and is designed to handle complex tasks across text, images, audio, video, and code. The version of the Artificial Intelligence model that is fitted to work as part of the phone’s features is referred to as the Gemini nia and it is now available in the Pixel 8 Pro.
