The Israeli Military’s Promise to Defend Gaza: The United Nations Ends the War on Forcible Transfer and the Gaza Strip’s Migrant Crisis

The Israeli order to evacuate the northern part of the Gaza Strip caused fear of a ground offensive that entered a seventh day on Friday.

The mass migration was sprung by an unprecedented evacuation order sent out by the Israeli military on Friday. Israel’s military is a military. Israel is going to hit Hamas leaders in northern Gaza, stated Col. Jonathan Conricus.

Within hours of the order, Israel faced opposition, both from Hamas and on the international stage. “The United Nations considers it impossible for such a movement to take place without devastating humanitarian consequences,” the U.N. said.

There is no fuel, the roads are rubble, and the main hospital is in an area that makes it difficult for people to leave.

Jan Egeland, secretary general of the Norwegian Refugee Council, said the Israeli military demanding that over 1 million civilians in northern Gaza relocate to its south, “absent of any guarantees of safety or return, would amount to the war crime of forcible transfer.”

Meanwhile, the Hamas leadership called on Palestinians to ignore the Israeli order. Hamas told the people of northern Gaza and Gaza City to remain steadfast in their homes because Israel’s goal was to take them away from their land.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees moved its operations center to the southern part of Gaza, on the social media site X, early Friday.

It remains unclear how hospitals and clinics in northern Gaza, treating the a stream of wounded victims from near-constant bombings, could be evacuated. Hospitals are full across Gaza.

Lynn Hastings of the United Nations Resident Coordinator for the Palestinian territories told NPR that there will be a crisis with dwindling food and water supplies over the next few days. She said that many Palestinians in Gaza don’t have access to safe drinking water and bottled water.

The U.S. has a plan to help Israel, Egypt, Jordan and the United Nations in order to ease the humanitarian consequences of Hamas’s attack.

The Secretary of State is expected to arrive in Israel on Thursday. Earlier Friday, Blinken met with King Abdullah II in Amman, Jordan, and was meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the Jordanian capital. Blinken is visiting five Arab states over the next few days, as he tries to contain the conflict in Gaza.

Israel has launched massive responsive to the deadly attack last week by Hamas militants that left more than 1,300 people dead in southern Israel. Some 2,200 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. The Israeli military conducted raids on the Gaza Strip in an effort to find Israelis who were kidnapped by Hamas.

The blockade of Gaza would not be lifted until the remaining hostages are released by Hamas, according to Israel. Between 100 and 150 people, including an unknown number of Americans, are believed to be held by the Islamist militant group that rules the Palestinian territory.

The U.S. diplomatic efforts come as concerns are growing the chaos — the worst outbreak of violence in Israel and Gaza in recent memory — could spread to the occupied West Bank and different countries across the Middle East.

Many Palestinians do not agree with this. But unfortunately, in their homes there are missiles shooting at us, [at] my children, on the entire nation of Israel. He told reporters that he had to defend himself.

A group of people using paragliders, motorbikes and boats launched rockets at the country from Gaza on Saturday. They overran a police station and military positions, as well as a group of people who massacred scores of people at a dance music festival near the Gaza border. Others raided gated communities and shot families dead, and Israeli officials estimate they took at least 100 hostages to the Gaza Strip.

Israeli authorities evacuated civilians from Sderot and other areas along the Gaza border after Hamas militants launched an attack Saturday that has killed more than 1,300 people in Israel.

The car carcass is next to a grocery store. The police station in the other part of the city was destroyed in Israeli tank fire after the police officers were killed inside.

The sergeant of the paramilitary border police has said that he killed Hamas men near an Israeli home. He says he saw Israelis’ bodies without heads — burned or chopped off, he’s not sure.

Naomi Galeano, a medic with the United Hatzalah volunteer rescue service, spent the afternoon of the attacks driving past the carnage of bodies, looking for anyone still alive.

Gaza City, the hub of Hamas operations, Israeli Defense Forces, and the Middle East, as viewed by the Secretary of State

Gaza City is where the focus and the hub of Hamas activities are, that is where most of the commanders are, most of their infrastructure and their ability to continue to operate,” Conricus said Saturday.

He said there were troops in formation around the Gaza Strip. The two main routes were open until after 4 p.m.

The State Department official said Americans would be allowed to leave Gaza after 10 a.m. The United States estimates that between 500 and 600 Palestinians are in Gaza, but it’s not clear how many of them want to leave.

The Secretary of State was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the weekend to discuss the conflict with the Saudi Foreign Minister.

“None of us want to see suffering by civilians on any side, whether it’s in Israel, whether it’s in Gaza, whether it’s anywhere else,” Blinken said. “And we’re working together to do our best to protect them.”

“Brushing your teeth has become a luxury for us. Your mouth is like a desert.”Ahl said her family’s home was recently bombed and they are unsure where they will seek shelter.

Israeli forces said they retrieved bodies of several missing Israelis, as well as items that could potentially lead them to more missing people. The Israeli military said troops destroyed infrastructure and squads including a Hamas unit that fired anti-tank missiles at Israel.

Hecht added that violence in the West Bank — which Israelis refer to as Judea and Samaria — spiked as well, leading the Israeli Defense Forces to take action there.

A total of 220 people have been caught by us, and 130 of them are from Hamas. Hecht was referring to an attack by Jewish settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank captured on video by the Israeli Human Rights organization B’Tselem.

Israeli troops and civilians pulled out of Gaza in 2005 after nearly four decades in the territory. Since then, Israeli forces have re-entered Gaza to fight Hamas a number of times. The longest operation was in 2014, which was seven weeks. The invasion claimed 2,000 Palestinian lives, and more than 70 on the Israeli side. The militant group was able to rebuild despite the setbacks.
