Which is just one reason “Harry & Meghan” is a royal disappointment. The couple left the family because they didn’t want to be noticed. But, very clearly, what they didn’t want was the negative attention, or any criticism whatsoever — a very primitive (and, ironically, very royal) attitude. In life — in real life — there is no good without the bad. The production is not to be revealing but to drum up sympathy for themselves, as Harry puts it in the film’s opening few minutes. Indeed, when asked why she wanted to make this documentary, she explains that it was good to have the opportunity to let people have a glimpse into who she is.
The first three episodes of the project, titled “Harry & Meghan,” were released on Thursday after months of speculation that the couple would star in a tell-all series.
They mention the pair’s first romance, their first exposure to the demands of a royal life, the pervasive nature of Britain’s tabloid media and the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.
Buckingham and Kensington Palaces will likely be braced for the fallout from the series, after sustained tensions between Harry and his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William.
It is hard to look back at it now and remember what happened. The first episode showed a video diary of Harry in which he inquires about how they ended up here.

Charles is making the case that the House of Windsor can help unite an increasingly diverse nation by using the early days of his reign to meet with many of the ethnic groups and faiths that make up modern Britain.
Buckingham Palace said on Thursday that it will not be commenting on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new docu-series that was released on Netflix on Thursday.
While members of the royal family put constraints on the couple, they spoke about it in the documentary.
In 2017, she described her engagement announcement as a reality show. Other members of the royal family struggled to share Harry’s concern when he was fascinated with the prince’s then-girlfriend.
Everything that she was going through, it had been put through by her family as well. The program will be watched carefully in the U.K., where even the teasers were criticized for offering misleading images to back up the emotive narration alleging misogyny, unfair media treatment and racism.

However, one of the clips used to illustrate his words appears to show reporters and photographers waiting for TV star Katie Price arriving outside Crawley Magistrates Court, Sky News reported.
The royal family stand on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, and Harry says there is a hierarchy of the family. There’s also planting of stories, but there is leaking.
There is also a picture of the photographer on a balcony, taking pictures of Harry and his wife and son walking down the balcony. While the scene suggests the photographer was secretly snapping pictures of a private moment, the photo shows an accredited press photographer who took photos of the couple’s meeting with Desmond Tutu in 2019.
The officials at the palace hope that portraying William and Kate as forward looking young royals who are tackling difficult issues such as climate change and early childhood education will be enough to make up for the bad PR that is being heaped upon Harry andMeghan.
William and Kate’s three-day trip to Boston, where they gave out environmental prizes, met with anti-violence activists and went to a basketball game, was covered in detail by the Daily Telegraph.
The right and left of Britain are very different these days. “Harry & Meghan,” the intimate Netflix series released Thursday, is quickly shaping up to be the exception.
Liz Garbus, the director of the docuseries, directed the first three episodes which were skewered by a bipartisan group of critics. Some of the commentary may not be captured in “Skewered”.
Piers Morgan, who has been vociferously critical of the couple in the past, wastes no time laying into the series in his scathing review in The Sun, a tabloid owned by Rupert Murdoch:

The series so far has lots of sweet moments, particularly of Prince Harry andMeghan being charming and funny together, but she ultimately finds the finished product wanting.
But in the end — what are we left with? The same story that we have always been told, with the same people telling it. Those who don’t care won’t watch. Those who actually care will still read into it and confirm their previous ideas no matter how much they care. There is a lot here to start a new round of tabloid insanity, especially in his mention of members of the royal family who consider the pressure placed on anyone being married in a ritual of passage and resist allowing anyone else to avoid the pain that their own spouses went through. It’s hard to see who the real winners will be from this, except for the media.
The criticism, however, did not just come from the political right. The series was called “a one-sided PR effort” by the Guardian, which is more sympathetic to the couple’s politics.

There are differing opinions about Prince Harry in his homeland. He was ranked among the most popular royals a few years ago, and his ratings rivaled his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth. Today his popularity sits at just 38%, according to research firm YouGov.
“I am glad they’ve made it, because I don’t like what they’ve done to the Royal family,” said Veale, while strolling around London’s Covent Garden on Thursday looking at the Christmas lights. ” I think this will make people hate them more, and I’m happy about that.

But who’s to say that people haven’t gotten a glimpse of who they are? What makes their version more real than any other version of their lives that has happened before? The series does a good job of depicting events in their own version of real life. At the time she got to know Harry,Meghan wanted to check his social media posts so she could get to know him better, and a significant portion of the archive that guides their narrative together.
Just as disappointing is the series’ content, which is a lot of the same we’ve already seen or heard. There are some new aspects but not much to change the minds of people about them. It’s self-promotional, self-aggrandizing and, frankly, a little boring. They are not as likeable and may be a lot less so. Notably, it’s perhaps the first time that much of the dislike is directed toward Harry, instead of just Meghan.
Whereas once he may have been viewed by the public as a hapless victim of a cunning attention seeker, or suffering from a form of “repetition compulsion” in which he’s repeating in his adult life a scenario familiar to him from growing up Princess Diana’s son, viewers will surely now have less sympathy. With “Harry & Meghan,” it’s clear that he’s willfully chosen to see what he wants to see.
Meghan previously said she felt like she’d been “fed to the wolves,” in a trailer released earlier this week. Harry accused the palace of being comfortable with protecting Prince William but not his own family, in the clip.
In the clip, released Monday, the Duke of Sussex discusses stepping back from royal duties and ponders what might have happened to the couple “had we not got out when we did.”
They were happy to lie to protect my brother, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us. However, he stops short of identifying who “they” refers to in the short teaser.

Similar to the first three episodes, the trailer gives a peek at the couple’s lives, with personal video and pictures, along with media coverage.
The trailer also shows Tyler Perry, who gave his California house to the couple after they moved to the US. “They wanted to be free to love and be happy,” he says. “I applauded that.”
Are you ready for round two? The final three episodes are due to be released on Thursday.
After months of rumors and speculation, the project became the biggest documentary debut on the platform.
The series was touted by the streamer as a “global event” and was teased in punchy trailers as a tell-all of Prince Harry and Meghan’s departure from the royal front lines in 2020.
However, these next three episodes may be a harder watch for the Windsor clan. Signaling what lies ahead, trailers released this week will undoubtedly have raised some red flags within the royal household.
