Military and civilian attacks in the Gazan occupied zone during the two day Israeli-Jewish attacks on the July 12th eveu d’Arafat
The people of the Israeli occupied West Bank were assessing the damage to their homes and businesses on Saturday, after two days of heavy fighting with Palestinian militant groups in the territory.
In the Nur Shams neighborhood — which was a focus of the raid — Israeli bulldozers had chewed up large chunks of the roads, and many homes were still without running water, said Suleiman Zuhairi, a retired Palestinian Authority official from the area.
The operation in Jenin in the north of the West Bank began overnight on Wednesday and continued into Thursday. Two episodes farther south caused some fears that the violence was getting worse.
The military says that it’s hitting strongholds of Palestinian armed groups. Over the past year, Israeli officials said that more than 150 shooting and homemade attacks on Israelis had been planned in the area of Jenin and Tulkarm. More than 600 Palestinians have been killed in clashes with the Israeli army in the West Bank since October, according to the United Nations.
Since the Hamas-led attacks killed 1200 people in Israel, Israel has been on heightened alert for an attack from the Palestinians in the West Bank. The Israeli military has stepped up its raids there in an attempt to head off the threat, arresting thousands.
An Israeli raid on a militant leader killed in the camp of Abu Shujaa: “Inflating” a leader into an icon of struggle
On Friday, Tulkarm’s residents held a funeral procession in absentia for Muhammad Jaber, a militant commander killed by Israeli forces during the raid. The Israeli authorities are holding his remains, according to his relatives.
Mr. Jaber, also known as Abu Shujaa, had become a cult figure in the Nur Shams neighborhood, where he lived, for his armed struggle against Israel. The Israeli military said he was involved in numerous terror attacks.
A nephew of Mr.Jaber spent the last several days inside his home in Nur Shams with his family. Mr. Zendiq had a son named Jihad who was killed in an Israeli raid.
Mr. Zuhairi claimed that Palestinians living in the camp were inflating him into an icon of struggle because they were looking for a leader.
According to statements by the police and Magen David Adom, the police officers were killed near a checkpoint on the highway in the southern part of the West Bank.
One of the officers was the father of a police officer who was killed during Hamas’s Oct. 7 raid on southern Israel that started the war in Gaza, according to the police.
