The Warner Bros. Discovery Production of the Harry Potter and the Wicked World: The Grand Unified Game of Thrones, An Adapted Series

For those who are eager to soar back into the wizarding world of ‘Harry Potter,’ buckle up because the franchise is coming to Max in the form of a scripted television series. (CNN and Max are both part of the same parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.)

The news release states that J.K. Rowling will be an executive producer on the project. Rowling’s “Potter” books were published between 1997 and 2007.

The series is expected to run for an unprecedented 10 years with the promise that each season “will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core.”

Over in Westeros, Max will launch a second prequel series in the “Game of Thrones” universe, titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Unit” based on author George R.R. Martin’s 2013 “Dunk and Egg” novellas.

The announcement for a new “Thrones” prequel comes after “House of the Dragon” debuted in 2022. “Dragon” is also a prequel series, based on the Targaryen civil war and set nearly 200 years prior to “Game of Thrones.” The book is based on the book by Martin.

The Targaryen line still has the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon is not yet passed from living memory, so these incomparable and dangerous friends are waiting.

“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series,” Rowling said in the press release announcing the show.

The first of seven books in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was first published in the United Kingdom in 1997, and the final book was published in 2007. Each book was a bestseller.

The books were adapted into eight films, with the first released in 2001 and the last released in 2011, raking in $7.7 billion at the box office globally. Max assured fans that the films would remain at the core of the franchise and would be available to watch around the world.

The Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play are part of a franchise called “Fantastic Beasts”, as well as a number of toys and games.

Fans reacted strongly to the news that a television series was in the works, and many have taken to social media to criticize the decision and Rowling’s involvement. In the last few years, there have been controversy around the statements that potter made regarding transphobia.
