New Features for the Apple Pencil Pro, as well as a New App for Multicamera Production: Introducing the Final Cut Camera
The Apple Pencil Pro has advanced features over its predecessor, like a squeeze gesture, which is similar to the way the stem on the Apple AirPods Pro 2 works, and a new Palette for quickly changing between tools, colors, and line weights.
App developers can also create their own custom interactions for the Apple Pencil Pro. James Cuda, CEO of Procreate, gave some examples of how brushes respond in entirely new ways thanks to the barrel Roll feature or squeeze feature. The Barrel Roll feature also allows animators to move and rotate objects at the same time while recording actions in Procreate Dreams.
Adding support for Apple’s Find My device location system is also a welcome update for scatterbrained users who frequently lose their stylus. It’s easy to misplace a slim, pencil-shaped device, and I know firsthand how frustrating and expensive it is to replace an Apple Pencil that inevitably turns up months later after you’ve already torn your home apart looking for it.
Apple is launching a new app called Final Cut Camera, which is specifically built to support live multicamera production. The app syncs with the updated Final Cut Pro app and lets users “connect multiple iPhones or iPads to capture additional angles during a live multicam shoot or record professional video.”
The Apple Pencil, the Magic Keyboard, and the 10th Generation iPad: A First Look at the New Models and Updated Software
The Apple Pencil isn’t the only iPad accessory getting an upgrade. The redesign of the Magic Keyboard features a aluminum palm rest, a larger trackpad with feedback, and a function row. It comes in three colors to match the iPad Pro.
With the launch of the new iPad Air and iPad Pro, Apple announced that it’s lowering the price of its entry-level 10th-generation iPad to $349. That’s $100 less than its previous $449 starting price.
Apple showed off its new processor during its event. It comes with a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU and is built using the more efficient 3nm process. Apple says the chip’s CPU is 50 percent faster than the M2, making it “an outrageously powerful chip for AI.”
For the first time, the iPad Pro comes with a crisper, more vibrant OLED display. The iPad Pro has a thinner profile, measuring just 5.8mm for the 11-inch version and 5.1 for the 13-inch model.
Apple revealed new features for its Logic Pro software, including a virtual bass and keyboard player.
The newest additions to its iPad lineup were shown off at Apple’s recent Let Loose event. We got a first look at some refreshed accessories and updated software when we attended the event.
It’s such a big difference that the larger model, which I’ve always felt was kind of preposterously huge, feels much more comfortable to hold and use. It’s up to 13 inches larger now, compared to before. You can tell the difference between the Pro and the new Air from practically across the room, and as someone who has carried around an 11-inch Pro for the last year and a half, it’s really a big difference. I have a question about the new Pro: is it too thin? The device is sturdy and rigid in my hands, but there are always tradeoffs with a device like this. We have lots of testing to do.
On the power of the M4 in the iPad and iPad ProcProcessor (and how it is expected to be developed in the future)
As for the M4 chip powering the whole thing? Well, we’ll have to see. The iPad has enough power for most uses for a long time, but the M4 seems intended to power more powerful use cases like Final Cut Pro or advanced features in apps like Procreate. In a short demo, it was super fast. The iPad is very fast.
