Spotify is What I Wanna Know About, and What I Wish I Had When I Was Afraid of Getting Away from the Internet
The senior director of product for personalization atSpotify said during the press briefings that they love listening to audio, and are always looking to be where their users are listening. “This partnership with Google seemed like a very exciting integration and a way for us to do just that.”
Some other changes include the ability to see your longest listening streak for your top five artists and an update to the “share” button that will show you whether the audio you’re sharing is in your top 100 songs, top 20 artists, or top five podcasts.
Apple Music, YouTube Music, and even Amazon Music all have their recaps on Wrapped this year. There is no question which entry in recap season is the most talked about.
Individualized is the word that comes to mind when listening to the podcast. The users are addressed by name and spoken to in the second person by the hosts. The hosts will analyze the data they have collected about you to find out things like your top artist and total number of minutes you spent listening. They’ll flatter you—they told me I’m a “tastemaker,” and called my music taste “so diverse” and “so unique.” They will tell you details of your lifestyle based on your listening habits. For example, they told me they could picture me strutting down the street in pink pilates gear to Chappel Roan’s “Red Wine Supernova,” and presumed that I sang along to the Rent soundtrack while in the shower. They expressed curiosity about my life, at one point wondering what I was up to on January 9, the day I listened to more minutes of music than any other day of 2024.
