The 2024 Razr: Towards a Human-Style Artificial Intelligence Wearable with a Larger Water Resistant Cover Screen

The standard 2024 Razr might be the more compelling device this time around. It is still $699 with a 6.9-inch inner screen, but the cover screen now matches the size of last year’s Razr Plus. The previous-gen Razr offered a small 1.5-inch screen that seriously limited its functionality. It was the cheapest flip-style foldable sold in the US, but that didn’t mean much when the cover screen was so limited. This time around with a larger cover screen and higher water resistance rating, it starts to look like a good deal. What about the spritz orange color option? So sweet.

The Razr and Razr+ cost $700 and $1,000, respectively, and both of these smartphones will be available for preorder on July 10, with official sales starting on July 24. Here’s what’s new.

The new hinges used by both models claim to offer better dust resistance. There are some changes to the cover screen software. There’s a new widget panel, which seems like a handy addition, and now you can zoom out to see all of your panels at once. There’s a clever new desk display mode so you can set your phone up in flex mode and play a photo slideshow on the cover screen, which sounds StandBy-ish.

There’s now support for an always-on display, which rules. This is a great piece of news if you want to convert the Razr into a Humane-style Artificial Intelligence Wearable; you will be able to run the Geminiassistant on the cover screen if you do this. If you do turn this foldable into a wearable, the hot pink and spring green color options will definitely make a statement.

A suite of new artificial intelligence tools that seem helpful but don’t ship yet is one of the new products that Moto will be announcing this year. It is a thing. You can say to catch me up to get a summary of high-priority notifications. Or you’ll say “Remember this” to have the phone capture something on the screen that you want to reference later.

There is a command to pay attention to, which will allow you to record a conversation, transcript it, and provide a summary. The company also has intentions of making this all context-aware, so it will tailor responses based on where you are and what you’re doing. It sounds nice, but I will believe it when I see it.

20 Years of Motorola Razr (Matrix) Development and the First X-Ray Test of the Space-Time Scalar Field Theory

I hope you’re sitting down. I’m going to give you some news that may be shocking: It has been, perplexingly, 20 years since the launch of the original Motorola Razr (known back then as the RAZR V3). Twenty years! Where has all the time gone?

The pink Razr was the phone to get in the early 2000s and will be played later today in New York City. My mom had at least one.
