But there’s more to it than that. I have really appreciated how deep and detailed the C2’s picture is. I think this comes down to the way LG’s Alpha 9 Gen 5 chip separates the foreground subject from the background and optimizes the image processing of both. In the past, I’ve dismissed this sort of thing as a marketing gimmick, but I’m sold on it here. It’s not 3D by any stretch; the effect is subtle but adds just that little bit extra to the C2’s video fidelity. The quick response time of panels can make youudder while watching 24 frames per second content. If you like that kind of thing, the Cinematic Movement Toggle will do a good job smoothing things out without being too dramatic.
But one of the main improvements that LG has made to the C2 will be obvious long before you power it on. The light design of the TV is the most notable thing. By switching to composite fiber materials, LG has reduced the heft in a big way. The 65-inch model I’ve been testing weighs 40.8 pounds with the stand or 36.6 pounds without. Stack that up against last year’s version, which came in at 71.9 pounds with the stand attached or 52.9 pounds without, and the difference is substantial. You’ll still want a helping hand when unboxing and setting up one of the larger-sized C2s, but that’s really only because of the screen’s width; the weight is entirely manageable now. The stand is shorter and taller than before, but that doesn’t mean the screen is blocked by the soundbar; it’s just that the stand has more clearance.
As for the HDMI ports, all four are capable of 120Hz 4K gaming and the whole array of HDMI 2.1 features. It’s nice not having to worry about which device gets plugged into which port. You want to make sure that your soundbar works through the eARC HDMI port, but the rest of the system provides plenty of flexibility. LG has been doing this for years, and while some TV makers are finally catching up and going full-bandwidth on every HDMI port, others like Hisense and TCL still limit some of the most important features (like 120Hz) to two ports instead of the whole lot.
Switch on the C2 using LG’s Magic Motion remote — yes, you can still use it like a Wii wand controller with motion controls if you want — and you’re greeted by the latest version of webOS. The company’s TV software switched to a full “homescreen” experience a couple years ago that’s more akin to Samsung’s Tizen and Vizio’s Smartcast OS. I preferred the less busy lower-third “blades” interface of older LGs, but I can’t fault the company for getting with the times. It is very easy to navigate around webOS on the C2 whether you are surfing on the homescreen with features like AirPlay 2 or toggling on smart lights.

I don’t know a lot of people who use an iOs TV only for its built-in speakers, but if you need a surround system for a while, the C2’s audio output is better than mediocre. The company uses some AI tricks to maintain good balance at moderate volume levels, but don’t expect much in the way of bass. These speakers are fine as a stopgap, but you’ll want to pair the C2 with a better sound system to bring its audio experience up to par with its visual one.
The company also claims that for the first time on anOLED TV, it come with freesync premium pro certification for the ultimate gaming experience. One thing you will not get from samsung is the Dolby Vision gaming period and that is because they don’t like it.
We got our hands on the pre-release version of the Corsair Xeneon Flex for an early review, and that left us with a great impression. You will get a variable refresh rate of 120Hz, a resolution of 1920p, and a quick response time of 0.03millisecond.
The Odyssey G8 is a bit smaller across the spec sheet, but it has a similar panel to what shipped in Alienware’s stellar QD-OLED gaming monitor from 2021. It matches key details such as the 34 inch size and the 21:9 aspect ratio. If that changes, we will update this post.

We are excited to see what the new gaming monitors are capable of, but we are not going to be happy until we know what they can do. The Corsair Xeneon Flex has an average brightness level of 150 nits, which is very low by today’s standards. If you’re used to the brightness of the Odyssey G9 you’ll be fine with a dimmer display. then these displays may feel pretty subdued.
The 4K lack of options is also a dealbreaker for some people, it would take a powerful gaming PC to play most games at the resolution and refresh at the same rate. The current-gen console won’t be able to handle it. The sweet spot is where the image quality is good and the refresh rate is not too high.
A Year Later: Galaxy S95C QD-OLED TVs And Their Consequences For Smartphones And Smart Hubs
But only a year later, we’re going bigger. Samsung’s just-announced S95C QD-OLED TV will add a larger 77-inch model in addition to the previous sizes. The TV maker claims that consumers are opting for larger and larger sets, so it was logical for them to build a reputation for this type of set.
Last year was a good year for consumer TVs, with the introduction of the S95B QD-OLED TVs from SAMSUNG giving competition to both Sony and LG. But the S95B series was limited to just 55-inch and 65-inch models — because those are the only TV sizes that Samsung Display manufactured QD-OLED panels for. It’s brand new technology, after all.
The monitors are meant to connect to powerful consoles and PCs but they also support a controller that can be used on cloud streaming services. They have a Smart Hub which allows them to access smart TV apps. Micro HDMI 2.1 and Mini DisplayPort are both featured in both of them.

LG has made similar claims about subject detection and AI-powered scene enhancement in past models, but I think it’s more than mere PR speak. There was a certain depth to the image when watching high-quality video sources. At times, you start to wonder if the intent is being trampled by the decision to put it here. So far it’s stuck an excellent balance, so I’m not worried.
And like we learned upon the release of Apple’s latest Apple TV 4K, the 2023 LG OLEDs will support QMS-VRR. The QMS stands for quick media switching, and this feature eliminates the brief black screen when changing between different video frame rates. It doesn’t prevent the internet from being blacked out. Elsewhere, you can expect LG’s new lineup to continue offering the wide mix of software features that they have in recent years. It’s not necessary for gameplayers to worry:

Samsung undercut Sony’s QD-OLED TV last year, and I’d expect the company to maintain similar prices this time out. Count me very curious on what that 77-inch model ends up selling for.
