LinkedIn, LinkedIn, and the Entra Verified ID Credential: A New Platform for Verifying Employees’ Workplace Affiliations

In addition to the green and blue check on profiles, LinkedIn will highlight other verifications, but it doesn’t seem to be offering a badge that displays next to your name throughout the network.

Microsoft said in a post published today that members and organizations can be more confident in their work affiliations by simply looking for a verification.

The system is backed by a decentralized identity and a trust model that involves an issuer, a holder, and a verifier. Employees can use a digital ID to prove they work at their job, or they can apply for a loan using the ID. Microsoft wants to push this kind of system to more places where verification and trust is needed.

“This is just the beginning,” says Joy Chik, president of identity and network access at Microsoft. “Verified ID credentials can increase trust, authenticity, and verifiability while reducing cost, time, and friction in many scenarios.”

The third verification feature allows users to confirm their name and current employer through the Microsoft Entra Verified ID credential, a workplace identification platform Microsoft launched last year. The option will be given to employees at a few dozen pilot companies that are already Enroll in Entra at the end of the month.

Oscar Rodriguez, the vice president of product management at LinkedIn, wrote in a post today that the new free features will give them confidence that who they are connecting with is trustworthy and authentic.
